Rikomagic USA IIIs RK3188 Dual Core (MK802IV)

I am a bit confused. This is my first RK mini Android device. It is a Rikomagic USA version called the IIIs (RK3188 Dual Core). My confusion is because they call it IIIs, but it is not using the RK3066 CPU like the Rikomagic MK802IIIs here.

Since it appears to be a RK3188 Chip with 2 cores disabled or removed, then does that mean I need to use the flash roms for RK3188 chip devices, like the MK802IV ?

When I tried to flash it with the MK802IIIs Rikomagic S8B_1080P_20130902_V1.0.zip file it seemed to work, but the Wireless network would not enable and kept turning off.

I ended up updating back to the Rikomagic USA flash called
    http://rikomagicusa.com/downloads/netflix_dual_core.zip which is JB 4.2.2.

How do find out what custom firmware will work with this device? The serial number starts with 20131005..

Also, how do see what kind of Wireless network chip this device is using?

I'm almost tempted to flash with this just to see if it will enable my device to use 4 cores:

    Any help/guidance is much appreciated.

    Hi,

If it's says RK3188, I would treat it as such. But I've never heard of a dualcore RK3188 to be honest. And don't trust the box it came in! My MK809iii came in a box with an RK3066 badge on it. Judging by the serial number, it almost certainly has an AP6210 wifi chip.

So I tried using Finless and Neo's custom roms for MK802IV but the RKAndroidTool 1.24 won't flash the device. Using the Erase does work though. In any case, I am able to use RKBatchTool to flash which is an entire package.img file, not sure why RKAndroidTool doesn't work, but i'm going to mess around more, I read that unchecking "Parameter" worked for some, but it seems that it fails immediately with RKAndroidTool, but it does detect the RockChip USB (erase works) and can only successfully flash with the RKBatchTool.

I'm going to try kasty's rom since it uses RKBatchTool and is one file.

I need to ask Finless or Neo to create a one package file, to use RKBatchTool so I can try out their ROM.

Yes, it is confusing, but the RikoMagic USA Dual Core model is labelled as IIIs (but it is using RK3188). I think for the USA market they decided to call the Dual Core IIIs and they offer Quad Core, but it is not labelled IIIs.

So, since they are using RK3188 then I need to use firmware for RK3188 and the new AP6210, but I haven't been able to flash Finless or Neomode using RKAndroidTool even though it is detected and I can erase, using RKBatchTool does allow me to flash.

I'm going to try unchecking everything using RKAndroidTool 1.24 and try one file at a time to see if it will work, and if it still fails, then I think my only option is to use a single flash file with RKBatchTool.

I don't want to spam, as I've already posted this as a response to you from the Neomode 1.7 thread, but here it is again...

Can you open it up and take a pic of its guts to ID the chips? I did some digging. It certainly isn't a Shenzhen Rikomagic, aka RKM. You have something from an entirely different company whom have bought American rights to a deviously similar name. The products they sell have me bewildered. Here is the derelict but "official" US page: rikomagic.us Additionally here is the true RKM mk802 iiis page: http://www.rikomagic.com/en/product/...32_pid_19.html

Yep. Its a clone of the RKM mk802IIIs. Its core is an RK3066. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CQ9Y9DM

( Edit - In all honesty, i would ask for an immediate refund and drop coin on another product. What follows is one of several honest and relevant reviews I found for your device made by "verified" purchasers on Amazon. I only read verified buys. Im sure the people who wrote the critical reviews bought directly through the same hands who also process the rikomagicusa.com sales, so all this is to hopefully help your confusion.

" Don't trust the feedback, they are offering money for + reviews. Netflix doesnt work, wifi is horrible, hulu broken.

I trusted the good reviews and bought this. Turns out there is a card in the box offering 10$ via paypal for a positive review. No wonder.

It is junk. I'm a big android geek. I've been rooting and flashing my phones for years. This thing is terrible.

This for some reason, came with android 4.2.2. Thought maybe that was a good thing until I started trying to use it.

I moved my router upstairs, 15' away from the unit. I can speed test on my phone standing right next to it at 20mbps, this can't even get over 1, and the average speed test is .3mbps . I turned off wifi battery optimization as I found online that could cause problems.

Netflix stutters and is pixelated the whole time, hulu will not even attempt to play a show. Tried uninstalling and re-installing both, removed all the garbage apps with Titanium, still runs like garbage. Flashing roms is very clunky, instructions on how to do it show screencaps that are in chinese. Not even going to bother, not worth the time.

Again, I'd just like to point out. All these positive reviews are being bought. They are giving people 10$ via to leave a positive review. It's a scam. Stay away from this one." )

                  I was fooled!

Hi Mechaone, thank you for correcting me and showing me this.

I want to apologize for the mis-information. Lesson learned, be cautious about the **** auction listings, and their product websites are not correct either. The problem was that Rikomagic USA website had the wrong specifications for this device, and also the **** seller was using this information to mis-represent the product and I have filed a dispute for, "Not as described" so that I can get my money back and hopefully have the seller change the product description so not to fool other people buying this.

Here's the auction link and shows MK802 IV all over the listing, as well as showing it having a RK3188 SOC.

No wonder I couldn't flash this device with any of the RK3188 firmwares. It was always working with the Rikomagic USA flash.

Here's the CPU-Z screen shot (I should have done this first thing to confirm ).

To note it shows "Hardware - rk30board", i'm assuming that the RK3188 will show up as rk31board.
