701i now rebooting every time I try to power down

Like it says I just noticed every time I hit the power button this thing goes through the motions then goes black, after a few seconds it clicks softly and powers back up and boots. It seems to power down when the USB jack is hooked up and charging but if I unplug it it boots back up. Any ideas to make it happy out there.
I did recently root it and add market so maybe something got scrambled. It does seem to run everything fine but this is kinda frustrating as I don't think I want to deal with trading off again or anything like that.

I have 2 of the 701i units and haven't had that happen.

Maybe a reset will get it going right again, it is a pain though having to reload everything and get all your setting just right.

      mine do the same thing

It seems to be a "feature" for these. There was another thread about it not charging while staying off i know i frequently will will plug it it to charge at night and have it suddenly pop on a few minutes later. As for the click, mine will do this periodically no matter what the state just suddenly have a random pop, i think from the speaker. That is definitly something i was going to try and figure out, but we are working on rom's at the moment

And this morning after it had charged all the way up it stayed powered down, but when I then powered it up again, let it boot and do it's thing, and hit the red power button it did it all over again. I guess ay least once it's charged while powered down on USB it stays off till I hit the power button.
I removed the root program and market for now just in case they did something too but no change. I did try to do the factory reset and I get to the button that says erase all your settings and programs and nothing happens so maybe a permission or setting I haven't found is messed up.
everything seems to still work like it should with no speed issues so I guess I'll poke around and see if I missed a setting somewhere.

          Odd

Mine also does the random click sound. Does appear to be coming from the speaker. None of the powering issues though. I have the random click no matter which firmware im running. (shawns stock pmid 701c (GB) stock 701i firmware (before I started flashing), onda 4.0 v1 and v5).

Two times today it went ahead and shut all the way down, the rest of the time it reboots so I'm thinking something in the firmware or housekeeping functions might have gotten scrambled, though it doesn't seem to want to allow a factory reset either. I think I'll hang onto it a bit longer and see how it does and if it doesn't decide to work or we get a firmware and backup that fixes it I will trade it back in too. I've got most of the stuff I wanted backed up on the SD card or on my downloads folder now anyways, just hope I don't have to trade in for another one again as other then this it seems to work fine and the battery holds up pretty well.
I have tried to reset it and when I get to the last screen asking if I want a full reset that will erase all my added goodies it just sits there and does nothing.

I picked up the 701I and rooted and installed market using the root explorer method. I set everything up on the tablet, apps, logins and then powered it down. I came back later and turned it on and it had been completely reset to factory and everything was totally erased. The only things left were the apks that were on the ext 16gb microSD card that I used earlier to root and add market. I was blown, but I said oh well, I should have backed everything up and proceeded to start at the beginning attempting to root it again using root explorer. This time when it installed, it wouldn't let me mount r/w. I would press the gray box over and over again and nothing would happen. I tried to do a factory reset and when it booted back up it brought me to the recovery menu. I chose a factory reset from there and rebooted. Then I started the process again and root explorer would still not let me click the gray box. I was so frustrated that I just turned it off. Once I calmed down and went work on it again, I turned it back on and it was reset again! The root explorer was gone!. I don't know what to do now. Any suggestions?

Wow, that is nothing I've heard of yet... Wish I had some advice on this one, I'm sure someone here will have an idea or two about what maybe wrong and how to handel it though.

Personaly I'd assume it is a faulty unit and would opt to return it for a working replacement. I've rooted 3 of these things and have had a good hicup free time with them. I did return the 1st unit I bought of these a 701C because the WiFi was terrible (like 1 bar standing 5 feet from the router!). But that was before any app loading or rooting etc... Other than that the 701 units have been good to me.

Hope you can get it fixed ASAP!

Here is the thread where they are asking for somenoe with a fresh rom. It says to pm Shawnbusker and he will walk you through it.

Well I'm about to exchange mine. It will not do a full factory reset at all, just sits there or says it erased all the info on the sd card that's not installed. I can't get all my personal info cleared out just in case because of this so I need to know what else I can do to at least burn my personal login from Google on the tablet before I take it back for another one, pretty frustrating.
The reset button underneath restarts it but everything is still on it. I have cleared out all the extra goodies I installed but can't seem to clear all the login stuff for me I'll poke around here for the recovery mode or anything else that will clear it better then the reset function that's not working, or maybe try that new rom if it's up now before I completely give up.
