    Cannot install Rockchip drivers on Windows 7 64-bit

    Hey guys,

    I am trying to install the official Minix 006c firmware, but am getting nowhere. I am using a Windows 7 64-bit machine.

    When I connect the Minix to my PC, I hear the ding and see Windows trying to auto-install drivers. That fails, so:

    1. I go to Control Panel->System->Device Manager
    2. I see "Class for rockusb device"->Unknown Device
    3. I right click "unknown device", go to update drivers, and select the "Driver->x64->Win7 folder in the Minix 006c folder
    4. Then I get a message saying "The Best Driver Software for Your Device is already installed "Rockusb Device"

    But it still shows up as "Unknown Device" in Device Manager, so the Flash tool does not detect that it is connected (no green light).

    Also I've noticed that after maybe 3 minutes, the Minix automatically disconnects from the USB port, even though I haven't touched it.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

    What kind of computer are you using? Desktop PC or Laptop? If it is a small NetBoot or another type of tiny laptop, the USB ports on smaller devices occasional do not work for flashing android devices. It has something to do with the voltage in the ports even thought the Minix is externally powered, so you might want to try on another computer. Even if it is not a laptop, it doesn't hurt to try all USB ports and a second computer.

    Did you manually install the drivers or did you use Rockchips Driver Assistant application? In either case, you should completely uninstall the drivers, being sure to check the box to tell windows to completely remove the driver files from the computer, and then reboot and use the Rockchip Driver Assistant app, without the Minix connected, to install the drivers. You can download it here http://www.solidfiles.com/d/6640836ab0/

    I know this probably won't work at your stage because it still shows as unknown, but if you do get the driver working right and still can not get the flash tool to work, I thought I would add that on occasion some android devices won't be seen correctly in the app unless you hardcode the vid/pid values. I found that one of my Neo X7's recognized fine but with my other one, I had to edit the settings.ini file (if you are using the RKAndroidTool.exe) or the config.ini file (if you are using the RKBatchTool.exe) and hardcode the VID and PID references that match the Minix Neo X7.

    VID = 0x2207
    PID = 0x310B

    Both .ini files have two vid/pid references, so I changed them both and it picks up on 2 of my computers perfectly now, but only after adding the vid and pid.

    The disconnecting after a little while is normal. Nothing being done to the device will time it out and it will basically go to sleep and you will hear the windows sound that a device has disconnected.

      Thanks for your reply. I used the Rockchip Driver Assistant tool to install the drivers first. Then I plugged in the X7 in restore mode, cancelled Windows' auto driver search from Windows Update, and then it automatically installed the right drivers from my hard drive I guess. I was able to update the firmware. Thanks a lot!!
