New T-R42 owner here - Mini Review

    Hi guys,

got my T-R42 a few days ago (from GeekBuying) and I'm liking it

So, here's a mini review for those considering a new machine.

WiFi seems to be fine, my router is on the other side of the room, about 15ft away, and I haven't had any problems with connection. I'm able to see some of my neighbours' APs too.

Everything seems to work, even 1080p over my WiFi.

I have a Humax FreeSat HDR with the "custom firmware" mod and I'm able to play HD content from the Humax hard disk on the T-R42 over the network, as well as 1080p video from my Mobius camera.

I've found that any glitches in the HD playback can be cured by installing a task killer, and cleaning house of any background video/players before playing.

The eHomeMediaCenter isn't too bad, but I don't like the big interface icons so I've installed Skifta which allows me to see whole titles in a list instead.
Generally DLNA works very well and picks up all our laptops, and Philips MCi500 wireless HiFi - (in fact using Skifta for music playback is a much better and more intuitive interface than the Philips display).

I'm using MX Player Pro for video as I believe the hardware acceleration gives great bang for buck on the T-R42.

The much maligned remote, supplied with the T-R42, isn't as bad as it seems, once you get used to it, there are some very useful functions as well as some irritations (like the mouse pointer that starts off too slow and then accelerates too fast).
The dedicated 'Home', 'Back', 'Menu', and 'Mouse' buttons are easy to get your head around and the selection of other hardware buttons become second nature to use after a coiuple of days.

Now that I said that - I started off using an old Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard, which works OK but is cumbersome, and I've now bought an iPazzPort KP-810 as a more intuitive controller, (take care, I bought the cheapest version, the KP-810-16A, and it doesn't even have a backlight never mind the TV learning remote or remote sound), it has most of the functions of a laptop keyboard and works well with Windows and my Linux Thinkpad laptop.

All the games I've loaded on the T-R42 - Raging Thunder 2 for example - run very smoothly, as you'd expect with a high end CPU/GPU combo.

What would I like to see? A full Linux desktop ROM, apart from that I'm happy so far.

I have a couple of questions to ask about using a remote gyro controller as a joystick, but I'll ask them in another thread.

    Hope this helps someone.

    Google Music

Got mine the other day as well. Great little device, the only problem I've had is with Google Music which won't play correctly which is a real disappointment.

It seems to be a common issue, has anyone found a fix for it..?
