    Pipo M7 Pro RileyROM 2.2

Pipo has released a firmware update...dated 11/30/2013. So I've created a new ROM based on that firmware.

I've been playing around with new ROM kitchen, thanks to my colleague 900SuperSport (our Cube developer here on Freaktab). With this new kitchen comes some fun features.

For months, I've been banging my head trying to get CWM Recovery to work on these Pipo tablets. I couldn't get a CWM version to format all of the partitions, so we put our heads together and combined the functions of the stock recovery to format everything on first boot, then auto install CWM Recovery after that. So this new ROM comes with a working CWM Recovery that your don't need to install yourself. You just have to wait a few minutes after the first boot after flashing for all of this stuff to install.

A byproduct of this new feature provides you with the ability to auto install apps from your external SD card. There are some limitations to this, but if you have utilities or small apps you want to use immediately after boot, your apps will also be installed automatically. Just create a folder named "autoinstall" on your external SD card and put the apk files you want to install in that folder. There can't be any spaces in the file names, though...so after you copy them to the folder, edit the file names to remove any spaces. Also, I wouldn't recommend installing an app that requires data to be restored from your Titanium Backup...it's better to just let Titanium handle those apps. And another thing is that key apps that unlock features within an app don't work well installing this way. For instance, I can install the Titanium Backup/Restore app this way, but I get errors if I also install the key. So just experiment with it and see what works for you.

In the past, I had trouble debloating everything without leaving certain apps in the ROM because it broke some features of the tablet. I've discovered how to keep the provision app from showing up to install Pipo's bloatware, when there wasn't any bloatware to install. It just boots straight to the launcher, now.

I also include an updated First Time User's Guide to add some more explanation of frequently asked questions.

Rockchip released a Windows app that will install the needed drivers for you. While I haven't tested it, myself...because I have everything working just right on my PC...I hear that it does help getting drivers to install the first time. I included it in the ROM kit.

    This ROM is:

    Rooted with SuperSU
    Completely Debloated
Google Play Store fixes added to allow for more apps to be compatible
English Default, but easily changed to whatever language you like
    Init.d Support
    Busybox Support
    Working CWM Recovery automatically installed
2, 4, 6 and 8gb parameter files for your choice of user app space
    Multi-User Support activated
    Reboot app (by Petrus) added
    Boot Animation by Tattman65
An updated First Time User's Guide
    New Rockchip driver installation app

I'm sure there's more, but I can't remember everything. I have tested this ROM on my own M7 Pro, and while I haven't run any tests, it seems pretty smooth and fast.

    Enjoy!!!!!

      Benchmarking the new ROM

      Hey at all..

Just for your interest i forced my tablet with the new rileyrom 2.2 with stock kernel
      through a benchmark parcour.

Here are the results: (the values in brackets are from rr 2.1.1 with stock kernel)

      Antutu: 19343 (18358)

      Quadrant: 5584 (5499)

      SunSpider: 1114 (1137)

      Vellamo HTML: 1799 (1743)
      Vellamo Metal: 535 (544)

      CF Bench: 15768 (14164)

      Epic Citadel: 41,1 (39,4)

      3D Mark Ice Storm 720p: 3911 (3800)

      An3DBench XL: 40301 (37087)

now i am baking a new kernel and test how much further i can increase the power

      of this amazing tablet.

      I'll let you know...

PS: The last bootanimation was more cool, how can i change it?

        herrjemineh,

looking forward to test your optimized kernel on my Pipo M7 Pro which is running very well with the excellent RileyROM 2.1.1 and kernel (kernel_M7Pro_021113_cpu1608h_gpu600_ddr720) & PurePerformances-X MOD.

My AnTuTu score is 20669 - will RileyROM2.2 give me an additional boost and are there any informations about new functions, fixes etc. from Pipo regading the latest stock ROM (11/30/2013)?

Yes, in the last post of the 2.1.1 thread

Am Ende ist alles gut, und wenn nicht alles gut ist, dann ist es auch nicht das Ende...

The only way to increase speed is clocking the ram to 720 mhz. Even with 1704 mhz CPU clock i get less points in qudrant and especially all the 3d marks unless a antutu score of 20677

              just finished setting up...

              Antutu:
              1.) RR2.2 with included stock kernel = 19722 (highest in 3 test)
              2.) RR2.2 + 720ddr kernel from RR2.1.1 = 20763 (highest in 3 test, lowest is 20312)

very smooth, but hopefully someone will post new OC kernels for this version.

Thank you very much Randy! You're the greatest!

                Performance boost vs Battery

Don't get me wrong and all this performance boost is really good to have. But how about the battery life?
I noticed (since my M7Pro) doesn't deep sleep, I loose 1% almost every hour without doing anything.

How about after this overclock/performance boosts? My old Galaxy S+ with cyanogen mod drops 2%-3% max after a whole night (8 hours) with 1/5 battery capacity comparing with my pipo.

How does cyanogen mode achieve this? Is it a matter of better kernel?

I'm using the exact same setup but I use crossbreeder also. Got 20718 and the tablet seems very responsive. The 1704 kernel hasn't caused any problems yet. I really like the function to hide the status bar, but while in games I can't get it back. Not a huge problem though. Anybody else experienced this?
Btw is the governor set to ondemand as default? I guess it is but I have to ask :-)

my m7pro wont run the 1.7 cpu kernel, i get bootloop even in previous roms. you guys are lucky
but less than 100pts diff in antutu is really small, Im not using any mods like PP and CB just the ddr720 kernel.

                      I dont feel jealous .

Yeah I ran the ddr 720 kernel with rr 2.0 before and got 20300 so the differance in antutu isn't huge. But the tablet feels slightly more responsive and games a little more fluid. But it could be in my head :-P

                          Dennta,

I haven't changed the governor. I get these results with mode interactive.

Just run the benchmark in performance mode and I get 20961

Are you sure the governor isn't preset to ondemand? I think it was changed from interactive to ondemand in an update, but I could be wrong.

Don't think so. App No-frills CPU Control shows interactive as governor after fresh install of RM 2.2.
