    Finless ROM kits

    Nooby here.

It looks like a lot of smart people visit this site. So after that little bit of flattery I will get to the point.

Are the finless ROM kits and other ROMs for that matter kept on this site? I couldn't see them. When trying to follow links they were either dead or were a mirror somewhere. Does Bob have his own site?

Second question. I noticed a few finless tutorials on unbricking various devices. So far I have been unable to find one for my particular device.

MK802III early model - no reset button, limited memory.

As you can probably guess I am bricked or maybe physically broken. Perhaps with answers to my above questions I can work this out. If not I can provide further details

      Thank you for the reply.
Many questions can be answered in this forum but could involve many hours of searching. I admit I find the forums somewhat frustrating.

Is there a centralized place where it shows which ROMs work with which devices? Is there a guide to identify one's device? Most importantly, what is the URL of the download site?

I noticed that finless ( is that Bob? ) has written some tutorials on reviving some devices. I have been unable to find one for my device mk802iii. The fix it seems is to erase the NAND by shorting some pins on the NAND and then flash the appropriate ROM using the tools that come with the ROM. In summary, I need a ROM, tools and information about my NAND.

Anyone interested in getting me started?

Not sure if this is any help but hears a link for the original firmware

Yes you can short the pins on the nand but im not the man to ask about that as iv never done it either pins 6&7,7&8 or 8&9 it seem to vary from device to device.

Thanks blinkone. Unfortunately I have already gone that route. They have instructions for shorting pins 6 and 7 and that puts it into rock usb mode. If I understand the finless tutorial it is necessary to erase the NAND and get into rock usb mask mode. RKM provide a photo with their instruction and the odd thing is that I think they actually point to pins 19 and 20 if we start counting from the dimple on the chip.

I always thought it was count down from the dimple short pins 6&7 wile you plug it into your pc then it should bong & say mask rom mode then you click erase nand.

Indeed shorting pins 6 and 7 as per the photo ( not the end with the dimple ) while powering results in the bong and blue indicator. I have flashed the RKM image several times using both upgrade and restore. Everything appears to load and firmware check passes. Power down and up and wait five minutes as per RKM instruction ( actually waited 30 min ).
Screen is blank the whole time.

Being a Linux nut I wanted Picuntu on my stick. The procedure from a linux machine is to load a a custom recovery partition using rkflashtool assuming you have a linux rootfs on your sd card. Then from a terminal type in reboot recovery. In theory this should now boot linux. All I got was Andy on his back with a red triangle on his chest. I have since learned that is not that unusual and oddly enough the cure is to load a finless ROM prior to flashing recovery. Alas it is too late.

To continue, I restored the stock recovery and still Andy is on his back if I boot into recovery. Tried some other custom recovery with same results. The stick through all this would boot normally.

I put the project on the shelf. Oh look RKM has a new 4.2.2 ROM. Anyway after loading the new ROM following the instructions as has already been discussed now the stick will not boot at all. Tried other images. No dice.

During these various procedures I never had an error indication.

I'll give them a try. I don't expect the wifi to work since the ROMs are not for my specific device. If I can get the screen to light up it will be a step in the right direction. I use an ethernet adapter anyway.
