    Pipo S3 RileyROM 1.2

The previous version of the RileyROM had a bug which caused wifi not to work. Thanks to Freaktab member Raoule, we have an alternate firmware version dated 12.15.2012 that shows to have wifi working.

The bonus is that this ROM contains all of the new features I've added to RileyROM's since I did v1.1.

On first boot, you may notice that stock recovery will format all of the drive partitions before the system boots. That's the last you will see of stock recovery, because after first boot...CWM Recovery will automatically replace stock recovery. I'm not sure whether the touch screen will work with this tablet in CWM...if it doesn't let me know. If there are any external keys, you can use them to navigate the CWM screens.

Also, during the first boot process, if you have an external SD card inserted in the tablet, any apk file you have in a folder named "autoinstall" will automatically be installed during the first boot. Just rename the apk files to remove any spaces in the file names, or they won't install. Just open the app drawer and watch the apps populate as they are installed. Wait about a minute after the last app is installed to allow CWM to install before you reboot the tablet. Don't get too carried away with installing apps this way...I recommend only installing small utility apps. Key apps that unlock features in paid apps won't work this way, so don't waste time trying.

Other new features in the ROM kit include:

An updated First Time User's Guide.pdf file with all of the instructions and tips on installation. READ THIS BEFORE ATTEMPTING INSTALLATION OF THIS ROM!!!!! It will save you and me a bunch of time trying to explain things.

The new Rockchip Driver installation app is included in the ROM kit (just look in the folders). Use this first to install the drivers (if you haven't already done so in the past). Windows 8.1 is problematic with the installation of Rockchip Drivers, so maybe this app will help. There are threads all over Freaktab discussing Windows 8.1 (even in the Pipo section), so please read these threads before you get started.

Even though the drivers may be installed, you may have trouble rebooting your tablet from the flash tool. Because of this I also included the RKBatchTool in a folder called "alternate_reboot_to_flash_tool". Just run this app. If your tablet shows up as a pink box, press the "switch" button and it should put your tablet into flash mode. Use the ROM_Flash_Tool_137.exe to flash the ROM. Again READ THE FIRST TIME USER'S GUIDE!!!!!.

    This ROM is:
    Rooted
    Debloated
English default, but all Android languages are available
    Google Play Store fixes
    Init.d Support added
    Busybox commands added
Working CWM Recovery installed after first boot
Autoinstall feature from external SD (see above)
    Boot Animation by Tattman65
    Reboot app by Petrus

    Download

I'm not sure I can fix it without a tablet to test. If wifi was working on 1.1...just use it instead. There must be some variations in hardware that keep wifi working on one ROM, but not another.

Riley, I think that is the case. When I bought my Pipo S3 the WIFI worked. When I downloaded the Rom from the PIPO site for the S3 and installed it, the WIFI did not work. It was only after PIPO sent me a new Rom for the S3 and I installed that one, the WIFI worked again. I think PIPO figured out that the factory changed some part inside the device that was no longer compatible with the Rom posted on their site. Apparently this is not that uncommon for Chinese manufacturers to do this. I think most of the devices WIFI work on only Riley's 1.1 while some like mine the WIFI only works on Riley's 1.2.

So...do you have a different firmware than my 1.1 or 1.2?

No. Your 1.1 does not work on my S3 but your 1.2 does. As far as I know there are only two firmwares released by PIPO for the S3. You have rooted both of them as 1.1 and 1.2.

Tested different versions of the ROM

                Hi Riley,

Hope I can be of help in this thread especially on the a wifi issue.
I am a Pipo S3 (not Pro version) user and I've been using your custom ROM Pipo S3 RileyROM 1.0 for about 6 months now. The performance was great compared to stock ROM. There was no wifi issue encountered on this version of the ROM. I recently updated my custom ROM from your Pipo S3 RileyROM 1.2 version. The performance was also great, installation was smooth but the wifi issue occurred. I cannot turn on my wifi on this version of the ROM. I guess this is related to Raoule's problem.

I will be installing your custom ROM Pipo S3 RileyROM 1.1 tonight, and see if the problem still occurs.

I'll keep you posted once done.

                Thanks.

Thanks for the update. I think there are different versions of this tablet floating around. Perhaps with different wifi components.

Check the PM I sent you.

                      Does a powered hub work?

Has anyone else had trouble extracting the ROM zip?

Hey, I've registered just to tell you the solution. I was flashing my Pipo s3 clone tablet with OMA roms, but I was not happy with how it worked (slow animation and big input lag), so I've tried Riley's ROM, it worked better, but my wifi didn't work.
But the same thing happened for me when I tried OMA roms first - this was how I learned that the kernel is often the reason when wifi is not working.

When I've first flashed Riley's Rom 1.2 my wifi didn't work. So I've taken one of the kernels from OMA's website, and put it in one of the Riley's ROM 1.2 directories, flashed it again and voila, the wifi worked. (Just search for kernel.img and replace it with the newly downloaded kernel).

(please search for phrase "s3" and you will find 2 kernels).

Forgive me but I'm not sure which kernel I've used. But it is certainly one of the kernels that OMA has provided on his website.

I hope it helped. Have fun.

Volante11, I have exactly the same tablet, Kruger & Matz 0793!

After several months of use Riley's Rom is working very well.
The original producer's android worked extremely smooth first (it had even lower input lag and smoother animations compared to RileyROM), but after some days of use the tablet would lock up for eg. 5 seconds without any reason like update running in background.

So even though the input lag and animations are slightly worse compared to original ROM, the fact it doesn't lock up/freeze that often makes RileyROM an overall better choice Thanks Riley!
