    Pipo U8 KitKat RileyROM 1.7

This ROM is based on a KitKat update Pipo released on 12/10/2013 which fixed camera features.

I'm happy to say, I've gotten most of the problems worked out with this KitKat ROM. Plenty has changed from 4.2.2, so it took me a while to work out the rough edges.

The 1.6 version booted and ran fine on my U8, but I discovered it wasn't rooted. I had to learn a new way to root KitKat.

My next project to tackle is CWM Recovery, which is present in this ROM, but I wouldn't recommend booting to it. You cant control it from the touch screen, and it continuously reboots to CWM. You have to reflash to get out of it...so DON'T use it for now. I will post an update when I get this working.

This ROM also has the auto install feature I have introduced in my other ROM's.

Just load the apk files you wish to install in that folder and watch them populate to the app drawer immediately after the tablet boots for the first time. CWM will install last, so just wait about a minute after you see your last app populate to the app drawer. Now there are some limitations to this feature. First, you must have no spaces in the file names of the apk files. Just use your explorer app to rename the apps to remove spaces. Also, I wouldn't just install EVERYTHING from autoinstall. This is for utilities you need immediately. It's still better to restore your apps/data from a Titanium Backup. Some apps don't like to be installed this way. For instance, if you have an app like Titanium that has a key app to unlock all the features, you can install Titanium, but NOT the key app this way. Those key apps prefer to be installed via Google Play Store or from a Titanium Backup. Just experiment with it and see how it works for you.

    As usual this ROM is:

    Rooted
    Debloated
    Init.d Support
    Busybox Support
    English Default
    Working CWM Recovery
2, 4, 6, 8, or 12gb user app space by changing parameter files
    Boot Animation by Tattman65
    Reboot app by Petrus
    Updated First Time User's Guide
Rockchip driver installer app is now included in the kit

If you can't get into loading mode...launch rkbatchtool in my ROM kit "alternate..." folder. Click switch. Then go back to the flash tool.

You may need to do it manually. Click and hold the reset button with a paper clip. Press esc and power and hold while releasing the reset button. You will see the tablet in loader mode.

            KitKat 4.4.2 in the house...

Try flashing my ROM 1.7. Be sure to erase IDB each time you flash a RileyROM. The problem may be there is some parts of the previous firmware left over. It doesn't hurt to erase IDB more than once just to make sure.

BTW, Pipo has yet another update dated today....stay tuned for v1.8!!!!!!!! The only clue is that this firmware is labeled 4.4.2 instead of just 4.4.

I have read some articles that v4.4.1 fixed some problems with the camera and some other UI tweaks. v4.4.2 just fixes some bugs and security issues.

Anyway, the next RileyROM will be 4.4.2 for the U8.

v1.7 was very short lived...because Pipo released yet another update today for the U8.

I've created a new ROM based on the new firmware with KitKat v4.4.2.

The upload is still in progress, so give it an hour or so before attempting to download.
