    PMID701i (no TV-out) teardown shots [A13 Chipset]

Some people have asked for the inside view of the PMID701i without the tv-out port to determine if it is, indeed, the same hardware on the inside.

Well, These pics will prove that it is not. The solder points for the mic input is in the place where the tv-out port is on the PMID701c model. I think, overall, that this proves that the first run of the PMID701i was actually leftover PMID701c hardware just with different software on it.

    See below for more pics.

That one is a completely different board. yours even has a BGA setup for the missing flash, mine has the TSOP48 only. Doesn't look like drilling a hole and adding a connector is going to work for the video out on that one.

The fact that mine has a different motherboard there makes me wonder if that's causing my flash/livesuite problem. Wondering if the process is different for this one.

if you are up to it

could you pull the motyerboard out and get some shots of the other side? that is where the processor is. might turn out you dont even have an allwinner a10 on there. if not then livesuite will never work

my curiosity got the best of me...

so of course I ripped the tablet apart again..and I'm glad I did. Look what I found! This one has the a13 chip! So its different hardware entirely!

The A13 is newer from what I can tell without SATA and HDMI, according to searches - not that we need this in the tablet.

I am curious as to what your box looked like - did it say ICS 4 and video out? Have a picture of the front and side of the box?

Supposedly livesuite should work with A1X series of chips but, again, that is only from searches.

            Maybe you've seen this site:

lol no wonder they (Polaroid/S.T.) are giving everyone the run around on the firmware etc. They probably can't keep track of what's inside what model either.

Very interesting, my uncle just got one of the 701i's and it did have the video out port. I'm wondering why there would be three models of the "same" tablet just with different hardware and software.

It is very interesting indeed. I did find something on mine upon looking... The model number on the back says PMID701i 13.

Well now I'm really glad I took the one I got back, and my box was exactly the same as any of the other later 10 I models that do have video out. It still claimed to have video out and everything else, but the users pamphlet inside had no mention of the video out or how to hookup to your TV like the i I have have now that does have the out jack. I hope they at least change the boxes and it should be slightly cheaper seeing how they are leaving out one function, whether you ever wanted to use it or not.

                        @l-nova--

the back of my tab is the 70i 10, and upon opening er'up I can confirm it has the A10 chip and it does have vid out. The last two digits do signify what chipset is under the hood. Just thinking, are there anymore differences that we are not aware of---

well it looks like we have a way to tell them apart now without having to tear them down...so thats a good thing at least.

Did you happen to locate the Ram chip and can you tell if it can be upgraded? 512 is way too slow to run anything.

If you look at the second set of pictures, the 2 IC's next to the Allwinner A13 are the RAM's. Near as I have found I cant find any way to replace them. They are Ball Grid Array IC's so would need even better soldering equipment and more practiced use than I had when I was adding a new flash, which was tough enough and still not working yet by the way.
