Can anyone help me get my Wi-Fi up and running

I am new to everything in the technical world. I am an Air Force retiree and just getting started in computing. My grandchildren are trying a little tough love and say that I have to try to figure these things out on my own.
Anyway my problem is - I just bought a Polaroid PMID701C and there is an error message under Wi-Fi in the Wi-Fi settings and the box will not check. When I first turned it on I touched Wi-Fi and it asked for my network info and I entered it, but, when I tried to go online I noticed that I was not connected. So I went bact to Wi-Fi settings and found that I could not get the error to go away or even get the little green check mark in the box.
I have another tablet from panasonic and I have had no problems connecting to the internet.
I am not a tech savvy person, but I follow instructions quite well, so if anyone can help me solve this problem please explain as though you were talking to a five year old.

    Hello!

Thank you for your service. I'm ex-AF myself (1982-89), AFSC 30670, who served at Holloman AFB, NM, Sembach AB, (West) Germany, and (what used to be) Kelly AFB, TX.

Before doing ANYTHING else, back your installed .apk files - free or otherwise - to the external SD with the App Manger utility that comes pre-installed in the table, because when you reflash your tablet, you will lose all user-installed apps and settings.

If you haven't pressed the RESET button on the back of the tablet, try THAT FIRST. It may clear the trouble.

Southern Telecom, makers of the 701c/701i, have now released firmware to reflash your tablet to either Android 2.3 ("Gingerbread") or 4.0 ("Ice Cream Sandwich"). If you're curious, go back into the forum a little, and you'll know who developed them for ST. (Disclaimer: It wasn't me.)

To reflash, use the procedure on their website (http://www.southerntelecom.com/polaroidsupport).

However, if you use the images and procedure listed here on Freaktab, you'll get your tablet fully rooted, and the Play Store app, too. I also recommend installing Flash Player 10.3 to fully support streaming Web videos. Lastly, to back up at least SOME of your tablet's contents, install and use the KKROMKit app to install and use Clockwork Recovery Mod, using the procedures you can also find on Freaktab.

If, after a successful reflash, you still don't have WiFi capability, then you most likely have a problem with the WiFi adapter hardware itself. In that case, I recommend that you either return it to the retail outlet where is was purchased for refund or exchange, or call ST customer support for more information about an in-warranty repair.

May you get your issue resolved quickly, and may you and your family get the most out of the Android experience. If you feel you need someone to help you through it (or would like to exchange 'war stories'), send me a private message. I'll do what I can to help out.
