    newb here w/craig741d, need advice/info

hi everyone, Im a little late to the party I think.. I have recently acquired a Craig CMP741d w/rockchip 2918 and ICS. this is my first Android OS/Device and my Linux experience is limited to a small handful of embedded devices (Routers, GPS units, etc.). I joined because there seems to be more rockchip experienced folks here than anywhere.

my main interest at this point for this tab is to figure out how to dual boot it with Android ICS/JB and Ubuntu Touch but from my reading so far this tab does not have a full linux stackso I dont know if it is possible however its sibling the CMP741E does but it has the AllWinner A10 instead of the RK2918. here is what Ive found on Ubuntu so far: http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?p=1103 now from what I can tell about it is that the kernel available here is Odys Loox and that is the same device that the Jelly Bean upgrade uses so does anyone think it would hurt to try and flash these to my device? any advice appreciated.

once I get dual booting sorted out (if possible) I would like to get Ubuntu working on this tab and other flavors of Linux GUIs too and of course learn to make a custom ROM.

my idea of a great custom ROM is one that gets as far away from Google dependencies as possible. no playstore, no chrome, no g-mail, etc., etc. and replace these with comparable apps from elsewhere or eliminate them and focus instead on privacy and security while maintaining as much functionality as possible. (I know it will be a compromise)

so far what Ive been able to do with the help of others on this tab is get a CWM recovery working but only for JellyBean thanks the folks here: http://www.androidtablets.net/forum/...n-install.html this guide introduced me to the RKAndroidTool which opens the door to many areas it seems and without it this tab would be very limited.

The Jelly Bean custom ROM from Oma @XDA http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1903745 is nice.

I was unable to get this CWM for ICS working http://www.androidtablets.net/forum/...tructions.html

I would still like to get CWM working on the stock ROM but Ive tried both of the ones currently available on ICS and they seem to work but upon restoration it always hangs on the boot logo so right now I am utilizing the custom ROM by Oma which seems pretty good but still an unknown source and so for security purposes I'd like to start over and learn how to make my own ROM from stock firmware first then another upgrade to JellyBean that way I can know exactly what is going on.

the original firmware for the CMP741D is here: http://www.craigelectronics.com/firm...irmware4.0.rar and the working instructions to restore it is on the second page of the first link in this post.

hope to learn alot here and if anyone is having trouble getting their CMP741D upto where I have mine, just ask and I will help out if I can. and BTW, this seems to be a great tab for the money!

    thanks

probably everyone is very busy right now.. or I write too much in OP?

I try to simplify to main question I have here so hopefully someone can help.

I have two CWM, one that works for custom JellyBean ROM and one that is used to install Ubuntu Touch for a different 2918 device and doesnt work on this one.

Question is: is possible to mod 2nd CWM with code from 1st one to make it work?

    thanks
