    getting there

So I have now got mygica atv520e to the recovery menu by:

    1) creating a SD boot using SDcardMaker
    2) On SD card I added files below (files from myGica's website under downloads, upgrade to 4.2 firmware)
    • spi_MX
    • recovery.img
    • factory_update_param.aml
    • factory_update_param.ubt
    • update_MyGica_4.2_20140519_kr34.img
    • ulmage_recovery.img (which is just a copy of the recovery.img renamed)

    3) So I then held reset button, used an earring to to short nand pins 17/18 and plugged in power cord
(fyi on chip, pin 1 is top left, so count down left side and put metal object between 17 and 18)

    4) once lights starting alternationg from red to blue, I released the reset button
    5) once the screen starting to load up the recovery menu I released the earring

I am now stuck on recovery, Ive tried clearing everything, updating from sd card any file on there. I even added bob's rom 1.4 to a usb and tried updating with the boot and rom, it looked liked it was working but nothing.

At least I can get to the recovery now, just need to figure out what to use for an update.

    Update.
Box is now unbricked and working with new firmware 4.2.

I just kept trying to reboot (hold reset, short pins and plug in cord) and eventually it went through the install process. I think the secret is patience , it may look like nothing is happening, but if blue light is on, just let it run even if screen if black and says no source.

Hope this can help anyone else.

    Cheers

Hi Finless, sorry to bother you but I have bricked my Jynxbox M6 and can't seem to wrap my head around the info you have provided in this thread... I was wondering where i can find the sdcard maker tool you mention below and also the files/ROM you reference below that is needed to bring my m6 back from the dead... I'm sorry I'm a noob at this... had the box working with pure Linux for months, it started acting weird the other day soI tried reinstalling the ROM to start over fresh and boom - bricked it while flashing....

I would be grateful for any help you can provide!

      thx

Step 1, using the sdcard maker tool (open as administrator in windows) tell the tool to format (check the box as it must be fat not fat32) and point the tool to the file spi_MX.bin. That file is your u-boot.bin. Oh and it must also be in the same directory the sdcard maker tool is in our you will get an error.

Step 2, copy the other files to sdcard
      spi_MX.bin
      recovery.img (from stock ROM)
Make another copy of recovery and rename it to uImage_recovery
      factory_update_param.ubt

Now at this point you do not need the ROM files on SD. This should at least get you booted into recovery menu.

FYI, on my M6 I never had to short NAND pins! Only the button on the box needs to be held when power is applied. This was true even for a hard brick. It's the older format ROM that needs NAND to be shorted. Somehow this new format and .ubt file always is able to lead recovery from SDcard.

On my HD I had to short those pins and hold the reset. While holding those plug in power.
About 10 seconds later the screen came on booting to recovery.

Aiiight. I've tried a couple times now without success but it seems there might be a heartbeat that wasn't there before.

As you said, shorting between 17&18, holding reset, power on for 10-15 seconds and then release. When the power is plugged into the box the middle LED (left-side Status) is red - but once I let go of the reset and short, the Net (far left) LED turns blue for approximately 3 second and then back to red. That's the first time I've seen blue LED in a couple days. I also observed that after 10 seconds of power, releasing only the reset (keeping the short) will cause the Net LED to change blue. Any idea what this tells me? Shoud I be releasing reset and short at the same time?

I get the feeling something is happening when the LED goes blue but some contingency isn't being met which makes it go red again. Sorry, I don't have the right jargon to explain this assumption any better.

On the sd card, I've tried three file arrangements: (1) all "Revert to Android 4.1" files including factory_update_param.aml, factory_update_param.ubt, spi_MX.bin, uImage_recovery and update_stvmx_20130805_eng.zip; (2) all of the above except factory_update_param.aml as per your suggestion; and (3) all of the above except factory_update_param.aml and update_stvmx_20130805_eng.zip. No dice.

I'm hoping that I don't have to buy one of the USB to RS232 adapters. AuXBoX seems to think it's the only way to go at this point (http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php...926#pid1612926).
