OK so I have not been able to keep up with you guys on this. Shawn and others have gone way beyond my ROM knowledge since I don't have a A10 tablet.

So whats the final word on upgrading this $89 Polaroid Tab to ICS? Works? Caviots? Gotcha's?

I want one just to learn the A10 ROM architecture etc but also want to use it

Even though it sounds like there is an issue with the video out port not existing on some (and if I am not mistaken those ones seem to be mostly if notall the A13 processor units) getting a decent ICS on the original C model is easy. The A10 I models only require knowing if you have the old hardware screen and digitizer or new, but even the lines in that is bluring. Things are moving fast with this thing Finless, FreakTab is definitly THE place for the Polaroid Tablet owner. I think it is rare to see less than 40 people viewing at any given time, and know a few times it was out near 200.

I THINK as long as it has the video out port and is a C model with the 10 build it should work but mine is a I with ICS already installed and is a 10 build with the port.
There are now 3 stock updates on the polaroid site for these things and it outlines which one to use for each version and warns that you can brick it if you use the wrong version.
It also claims you will loose video out functionality upgrading a stock C to their latest ICS for a C so maybe you'll want to poke around and try one of the images folks have posted of outa the box I units with a video out port, the one without it is different chip and hardware. some of the roms put the G sensor upside down depending on which model you go from and to I guess but I'm basically running stock on mine so far as it appears to be fully rooted from the factory and everything is working well.

Sale Price Good Earlier ONLY for Rewards Members?

Just a quick update that I got an email from the Big Lots Buzzclub rewards program. If you are a member of this exclusive club you can get the sale price of $89.99 without waiting for when the official sale starts for the general public on Sunday.

"Advertised price good when you use your Rewards card 5PM to close Friday, May 4, and all day Saturday, May 5 and Sunday, May 6 or while quantities last."

Because we're "special" i started getting their newsletters and all that right after signing up online and I think I'll have to keep and eye on these guys and get some of my goodies from them as they seem to carry oddball stuff and have great prices, kinda like Harbor Freight but for general goodies instead.

I got 2 of the 701c Gingerbread tablets and updated using the 701c_ICS.img

Android Market already works in that version and if there are any Apps missing from that store (Angry Birds, etc), I can usually get them through the 1Mobile Market or Amazon Apps.

I recently got the 701i on sale at Big Lots for $99. I am really surprised at how well it works. In the black Friday sales last Christmas I got a Sylvania netbook for $70 something at K-mart. I ended up taking it back cuz it just wasn't very good. No offense to Sylvania but it had Windows Compact Embedded 7 on it which is NOT a stripped down version of Windows 7 but is the latest version of Windows CE. It looked like there weren't much you could download for it and the netbook was so low on ram and hd space etc. It didn't get the internet very well. The Youtube program you had to use to watch YouTube vids in it stopped working. When you'd click on the icon for it it would say the program didn't exist when elsewhere on the netbook, it showed up as existing. So back it went. I recently got an E-reader with wifi in Big Lots that was on sale for $30 which was a good deal. The print on it wasn't bright or clear enough and the internet didn't work well on it. At a McD's when I tried to get on their free wifi, it wouldn't let me tick or check the tickbox you have to check or tick to say yes in order to get on the internet. So I ended up exchanging it for the 701i.

I am loving my 701i so far. I am surprised at how well it is doing. I can get on the internet and get all my emails off their websites, and all the message boards and websites I hang out on. I was able to put Angry Birds, Solitaire and some old arcade games like Centepede on it. And I was able to download on it a My Sword Bible app which has a number of different Bibles on it like some King James Bibles without the thees and thous (thee's and thous etc changed to their modern counterparts for an easier read). And I was able to download the ESV and Holman Bibles on it too.

Right now, the only problems I am having with it is that when the wifi connections in the area aren't so strong, the wifi tends to cut in and out, the battery life isn't the greatest and I haven't been able to get YouTube videos to play yet. The mobile site for YouTube when it comes up I can't find where to search for videos on the page. I am pleasantly surprised at how well it works for only about $20 more than the Sylvania Netbook. I just hope it continues to work well for me.

I got a 701i in that sale for my mom for her birthday and Mother's Day at Big Lots in Ukiah, CA, and she LOVES it! I am a the resident techie in the family, so I got her all set up. I am VERY impressed with it for the price, Southern Telecom and Polaroid has a hit with this guy! I am glad to be in the forum too, it's awesome to see such support for this and other lesser known tablets, I hope I can contribute to it as well!

The add I saw in my Emails from them say it's back on sale for 89 this weekend if any are left. I'm very happy with mine too and it's so much better then the Sylvania mini tablet they also sell for the same price which I also own, but luckily only paid 70 shipped for.

Yep. I saw that too. I was at my local BL and they had them in stock for the $89.99 price. They were promoting it pretty hard though. They had a mini table set up with all of the boxes for all the the tablest they sell setup so people can see them and read the boxes.

Probably pushing them hard for Mother's Day weekend.
