Seing KitKat sources released from other manufacturers makes me think how can Minix be made to do the same. Probably the new SDKs can surely be used to brew something for Minix devices.

not a bad argument, I dont get why rockchip still wont update the kernel to a recent build, it would fix a lot of their problems with all the video update goodies that recent kernels got.

actually to make kitkat work on such obsolete kernel should have required more work than updating to a recent kernel, maybe they dont want to pay arm for updated drivers licenses?

Just to clear a few confusions out, the lately released 3188 SDKs, are they official from Rockchip or what? Just a week ago Minix argued that there is no point on starting to develop for the 4.4.x platform, now they are making promises for it.

If so many companies depend on RockChip, why do they let them being screwed over?

I am currently running kitkat on my x7 , but i have no wifi (ethernet is great) and i think bluetooth is working (havent tested yet but it apeers to be on) and some other bugs, i will describe better later. (i am at work now)....

Tronsmart (geekbuying) launched a 4.4 version of their firmware, but MINIX said it's fake because they used same kernel what is used now for 4.2, so some new features can not be used.

Also these days ZERO Devices shown a little of the new Z6C with a gamepad as coming soon with Android 4.4, shown enough to be copied by anothers: https://twitter.com/ZeroDevices/stat...62621001543680

Also ZERO Devices did not like the comment from MINIX about the fake 4.4 because few news talked about that tronsmart update and lots talked about the new Z6C with 4.4


Well, finally looks like is coming a hybrid 4.4 version followed by a 4.4

Minix maybe will release 4.4 next MAR or APR

The RK3188 SDK was released by the designer of the ZERO Devices Z6C boards (and some ones more) through CNX Software

FYI the 4.4 kernel while it is still 3.0.36+ is a very different kernel!
It wont work on 4.2.2. There are many changes like supporting a new partition called metadata. Thus the parameter file has changed and with it a new bootloader.

So the comment about fake 3.0.36+ is not entirely true! It is a recompiled 3.0.36+ kernel to support the kitkat changes!

You're right, this is a reworked kernel with substancial changes.
In addition I would say that Minix should better start seriously working on their firmwares instead of criticizing others because their "work" is really really sh***y.
For a company that claims to have a dedicated development team, till now all they did is compile community fixes and blame rockchip ...

Just look at the last firmware : it took them 1 month to delete su folder, to change the battery status (WOW ! just WOW ! it is the most important thing to change for endusers xD) remove low speed frequencies and add bloatware ...

yet it still would be intresting to know why rk chose to invest time (thus money) into adapting this obsolete pos of a kernel with all its bugs and missing features to 4.4 instead of just moving to more recent versions.

If someone want try, this is the kernel + boot img for android 4.4.2 on T428

It should work also on minix x7

The t428 with this kernel + original system img of mk908 4.4.2 work very very well.
