    I am trying to finish up today but not sure I will make it.
    Trying to see if I can fix the SHL streaming apps. Not having much luck even after looking at what HW Guru has done in his ROMs.

        Currently using Finless v1.7 and very happy with the improvements made to a 'standard' Minix build.

        Looking forward to v1.9 and what it offers, whenever you're happy to release it.

          The ROM in which HW Guru says to have fixed HLS support is not a definitive fix either (at least, I had still no luck with several HLS apps / websites )

          Take your time, Bob! Don't let 'us' hurry you, especially not by "today is the day" posts

            Ik hope I can test if HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) and smoothstreaming finally work (up until now, it doesn't for most Dutch radio/TV broadcasting services).

            Or can you test for yourself by looking up the dutch NPO "3fm" app in the Play store, or visit www.3fm.nl in the stock browser.

            Then click th e "watch" (camera icon) feature to start visual radio stream. If the app works, the HLS is probably good for most other apps too. If it doesn't and give an error message, then it is like almost every other ROM (including the Hardwareguru ROM).

            On the mobile website, you should notice the stream will start with very very bad quality. After around 20-30 seconds, it will decide to switch to a better stream (which will hang forever in the non working situation).

            The first ROM for the rk3188-based X7 where HLS for most dutch services works will be the ROM I will stay on for the rest of the X7's life.
            Did HLS streaming work on any Minix ROM ever?

            Logcat shows bad errors with the FFMPEG libraries. I see HWGuru used different FFMPEG libs for his HLS ROM. I tried those but that 3fm app still errors and it's problems with FFMPEG and this stream.
            HWGURU ROM does not work on the 3fm either.

            If we know of a RockChip ROM that works with HLS, I can see if we can switch to those libraries.

              OK I got some streaming apps to work using the FFMpeg libs that HWguru used. But the 3fm APP still fails due to FFMPEG decode issues.

              I have not given up yet though. I have a RK tablet on 4.2.2 that works with 3FM so I will see if I can use those decoders.

                Awesome, it's great that we now know what the problem is !

                Now if we could find FFMpeg libs for kitkat that would be even more wonderfull

                  I am about to give up on 3FM. The TV stick SDK is totally different than a tablet SDK when it comes to decoding AV and FFMPeg!
                  It is coming down to possible both the decoders and the kernel. Logcat just does not give enough info as to what the issue with FFMpeg player from RockChip to figure it out completely.

                  However I have been talking to HWGuru and we will both look into this more. For now I am probably going to release my ROM and supply a HLS patcher ZIP so those that want it can patch and get it. I do not know what these lib files might effect for other things so I don't want to put it in the ROM permanently.

                  At least this got some HLS streaming apps working like TennisTV, etc.

                  Anyway hoping to get the ROM out today.

                    I read on some dutch forum that people who use your Finless 2.0 KitKat ROM also have working HSL but sadly none replied to my question about it in the thread.

                    Maybe that helps ?

                      Yes KitKat appears to work. It might just be related to selunix security and DRM. The entire FFMPEG lib's are totally different in KK than JB.
