With the proper experience and skill it certainly can be fixed... but experience/skill like that takes time to develop and can't simply be explained in a how to...

The way I see it... if you already have a good quality soldering iron with a fine tip and some solder... what do you have to loose in trying... just don't expect that someone will be able to explain something that is only learned through experience.

BTW... a good quality soldering iron costs more than the MK802IIIs does if you don't already have one.

That's an easy soldering job, provided you:

1) own, or have access to, a decent soldering iron (cheap soldering stations only cost some €15 or so, and they are almost universally better than standalone irons despite their cheapness), and

2) know how to actually use it.

If not, then you could get the player and the cable to your local electronics store and ask them to do the job. It's a quickie, so they shouldn't ask for much.
