We have a post for us old guys
To talk about old computer experiences... You might enjoy it

Ah BGA chips. Yes that is probably a no starter. If it was in a socket you might be able to upgrade it with just a chip swap.

"Vergeef hen want ze weten niet wat ze doen"
"Pardonne-leur car ils ne savent pas ce qu'ils font"
"Perdónalos porque no saben que lo que hacen"
"Oprosti im, jer ne znaju što čine"
"Forgive them as they know not what they do"

Found some info that might help!!!

I stumbled on this info this morning while researching some tablets including our own Polaroid PMID701c and PMID701i series. If you haven't already found and used this, it might help some of you guys close to the fire in modifying the Polaroid tablets. The info seems to melt the two main models of tablets together as you read over all of the files, which makes me wonder about the accuracy of the schematics. Anyway check this out:

I didn't want to start a new thread so I just posted this here, where modifications have been discussed-

      Enjoy... PRB

Those are Awesome!!! Thanks a bunch. All I had found before was some copies of the development board schematics squireled away in an obscure site. These are specifically for our unit. I notice that there are UART and JTAG test points on here too. Just need to figure out which is which.

The other thing I noticed is that the internal pictures showed a slightly different board that has 4 RAM IC's, presumeably 1GB RAM. Might need to look for one of those if I blow up my test unit trying to install the flash (or some other unknown mod)

did some cross referencing, getting closer on the debug points

Knowing that there are debug test points for the UART and JTAG connections from the schematics I am fairly sure the little gold pads right next to the a10 and the wifi module are those test points. I was able to find the BGA points in the A10 datasheet cross referenced with those on the schematic. I am also fairly sure that I can call a 50/50 chance on 3 pairs as to which points they are. Shouldnt be too hard to lock those in with a Oscope tomorrow.

            Hello!

            They're probably 1 Gb X 8 (note small 'b'). You'd need eight for 1 GB; 4 would be 512 MB.

If only they weren't BGAs! You MIGHT could find some pin-compatible 2Gb X 8 chips out there somewhere. There's also the possibility of perhaps engineering some kind of adapter board to convert the BGA to another package...

Looking a litte closer in the schematics you are right on what they have in the 4x ram slots they are 1Gb. I got excited because on my board anyway there are only 2 slots and they are 2Gb DDR3's filling them so I naturally assumed that they had the same on that one which would have been 1GB of RAM. As to the pin compatability between them, I would need to look at the datasheets.

Glad I passed along the info...

When I saw the level of detail in the files I thought these surely would be needed for any serious testing and modifying of the tablets. The FCC site is hard to search in for this type of product information. I went all the way back to January 2011 looking for more information and this was all I could find. It doesn't mean this is all, but since the manufacture combined the 701c and 701i tablets together this may be "the" file set for the Polaroids. If I find more info I will pass it along... PRB
