Yes, but not at /sdcard. The INTERNAL SD card is at /sdcard, but the EXTERNAL SD card is located at /mnt/external_sd.

I also had to send the 'adb root' command to push rkdump into the /data folder...

Where do you want me to upload it to? I set up a Mediafire account recently; I could put it there, but will have to buy more space there. The image is 300 MB, and Mediafire has a 200 MB per file limit.

Can I use this update.img file I dumped 'as is' to restore my tablet if I have to? I've seen that 'update.img' term bounced around by various tablet manufacturers...

What does factory rooted mean...benefit of rooted vs. nonrooted...accepts ADB commands...and ROM dump/ replacement benefits? Should i keep polaroid or go in get the Next book. My goal is simply to video chat. Will camera on front of Next 7 allow video chat? Can you add a cmaera to the Polaroid via USB...Will it enable a Skype video chat? Thanks

What would an aokp or cm9 port enable me to do additionally on a Next Tablet 7 if I get one? Is a Next brand better than a Polaroid brand in quality/durability/functionality construction? Thanks

If the features you refer to are available for other Rockchip ICS tablets, I wouldn't think it'd be that hard to incorporate. However, that's a question best answered by Finless, as HE'S the one doing the 'grunt work' here...

As Finless has said, the final decision about whether to exchange tablets or not is up to you. A FULL comparison between the two might best be covered in a thread of its own.

Rooting a tablet is a requirement for some apps to work as they were intended to. That's why it's important, but not ALL-IMPORTANT - at least not to ME.

Nonetheless, it'd still be nice to have a rooted tablet right now. BTW, 'rooting' a device usually voids the warranty on it.

As for ADB, that stands for Android Device Bridge. Developers, ROM chefs, and hackers use it to communicate with the tablet directly. You usually need this inteface to work to install a custom ROM, and I needed ADB to be talking to my NextBook to provide a ROM dump for Finless to modify for us. That's what took me so long to get the ROM dump to him. Modifications to some Windows config files must be made to pull it off, and it took me time to figure out what had to be done to the PC.

The advantages of a custom ROM? Many, including having Play Store access through the tablet. The bargain tablets usually don't have it installed, because they don't want to pay Google big bucks to offer it. (Can't say as I blame 'em.) Custom ROM often remove the 'bloatware' many tablet makers put on there, making room for other apps you DO want, instead.

Right now, there is no firmware available from those who make the NextBook for the 7S model. That's the first thing Finless is doing to help us, in case we need to reflash back to stock for some reason.

If you REALLY want video chat over Skype, a tablet with a built-in camera would be the way to go. You MIGHT could add a camera to a 'Roid in USB host mode, but will Skype for ICS support such a configuration?

I, for one, am not going to bother to find out. Those who make the 'Roids have disgusted me to the point that I wouldn't take one now if they gave it to me.

I'm willing to install Skype to see if it'll work on the 7S, but I have no one to video chat with...

If my Big Lots has the Nextbook, should I take back the Polaroid and get the Nextbook instead? The Polaroid is semi-rooted I think and this one isn't. The main difference between the 2 seems to be the Nextbook has a camera and the Polaroid doesn't. They have a Sylvania for $69.99 which is a good deal but the Android on it is an older one. So I'm wondering if the Sylvania wouldn't be as good as the Nextbook or the Polaroid since the Android on it is something like 2.0 and the Nextbook and Polaroid have ICS on them? They do have some tablets advertised for $29.99 like a Sylvania, I think and a Pandigital. I'd be fearful of using those as my big main tablet cuz they have an older version of Android on them. Maybe 2.0 or something. They would be good to have as an extra tablet for e-reading and doing my Bible reading apps tho and not having to worry thaqt I'm overusing my main tablet. They also are gonna have the Polaroid for $89.99 so if they don't have the Nextbook I could take the Polaroid badck and then get it at a cheaper price. Don't get the Syivania, it's battery is very small and won't last more than 2 hrs. I have the NextBook 7 (original) and plan to get the NextBook 7 S this Sunday, I had a Polaroid but took it back because it lost wifi every 2 minutes. I really liked the Polaroid but my Biglots never got anymore in. I have owned this NextBook 7 since December and really like it, of course I have Finless 1.5 rom on it and it never fails to run.
