Thanks so much for the info. I will either get the Nextbook instead of the Polaroid or if they don't have that then take back and re-buy the Polaroid at the cheaper price. If I do get a Sylvania tablet it will be the $29.99 one and will not be in place of the Polaroid. For that price, I'd like to have the $29.99 one to use to read my Bible Apps and as a backup one.

      Hello!

You won't have that WiFi problem with the 7S. It has an option in settings to keep WiFi on when it goes idle

As for the 7S, Finless will have once again worked his magic on it before we know it. At least we now have a working stock ROM for it now, in case something happens. (Thanks again, Finless!)

I mis-understood your post yesterday, I didn't know what Sylvania tablet you were talking about. I used to own one but it couldn't be upgraded and the battery was only 1400 ma. I went to 3 biglots here today (we have 7) one store got 12 nextbook tablets another had 9 and the last one had 8 we have 1.5 million people here and it looks like the entire San Antonio area got about 100 total. I tried to get each store to sell me one today but no luck. I plan to be there early Sunday. If you want one you better get it soon. None of the Biglots here had any tablets of any brand on the shelves today.
I am very happy with my nextbook 7p and hopefully as happy with the 7S. Thanks to everyone for the hard work and dedication to helping the rest of us.

              Hello!

I'll put it on my tablet right away, and get back to you about how it worked out.

UPDATE: Flashed it to my tablet. Thought I had a wifi issue, but I was wrong. Went to a public wifi hotspot and sent you a PM from the tablet with the new ROM flashed into it.

Finless, EVERYONE who buys one of these from Big Lots and other places who wants the best possible experience with their new tablets owes you a debt of gratitude! A BL assistant manager who righted a wrong done to me by selling me their store's advance-release sample of this tablet has, by his act of kindness, unknowingly assisted a multitude of his employer's customers all across the nation as a result.

My Biglots ran out but they should get some more in. I read that the NEXT7SE (Premium7SE) has the same specs but comes with a capacitive touchscreen. How is the touchscreen and user experience on the NEXT7S (Premium7S)? I had a Sylvania tablet and hated the resistive touchscreen since it wasn't responsive as I wanted it to be.

I was at Biglots 30 minutes early, they had 12 available, I got the 5th one and there was at least 10 people behind me. I hooked it up tried it for 5 min. then flashed with Finless rom with gplay.
This thing works fantastic. What a device, the resistive screen takes very little time getting used to it, But I thought it was very responsive. There was no stylus, but I used my big fingers and it works very good.
I have already removed some apps. Since I'm lazy I will wait for Finless and others to build a non-bloated rom.
If you can find one I recommed it.

It is pretty darn responsive for a resistive screen, unlike the resistive screens of old. My wife is playing Angry Birds Space on it, and she really can't tell much difference from our Galaxy 2 tab.

Sounds like a plan! I look forward to seeing what you can come up with - ESPECIALLY where Skype is concerned.

I knew they'd run out QUICKLY. I had to go to two stores to get two to give as gifts. More about that experience in a more relevant forum; I annoy folks for going off-topic as it is...

                          Nextbook 7 vs Polaroid701c

                          Hello,
I have 2 Polaroid 701c (actually 3 since I bought one for my wife) and a Nextbook 7P. These models all have capacitive screens and run android 2.2 or 2.3. I had a polaroid 701i with And 4.0 (ICS), but i took it back because the hardware was lower quality on the 701i. The WIFI strength on the 701i was only half the strength of the 701c and it would lose the signal frequently. The screen was also very dim, even at the brightest setting. I have upgraded one of my Polaroids to ICS with the update on the Polaroid site. The drawback to doing that is that you lose the TV out capability (not that I was using it anyway) and some apps don't run under Android 4 yet.

Comparing the Nextbook and the Polaroid (the models I have anyway).Pluses for the Polaroid- Has a larger operating RAM than the Nextbook, semi rooted out of the box, Android Market can be added through some available hacks, and I have added it to mine successfully.
Pluses for the Nextbook- Mine has a much longer battery life than Polaroid, getting 4-6 hours compared to 2-3 hours for the Polaroid. Better materials for the unit, bezel-free glass face is very nice and solid, compared to the Polaroid's flimsier plastic construction.

Just look carefully a what you are getting, both the Nextbook and Polaroid come in several different models which vary greatly.

Hope this was of some use to you or other people looking for a decent low cost tablet.

                            question from tablet newbie

I am considering getting the Nextbook from Big Lots. But I am really wondering what all you guys mean by a ROM dump. And why would you want to do it? Isn't the Nextbook usable out of the box? Unlike the Polaroid tablet, does this one access Android and Amazon marketplaces? I basically want a good eReader that can do a few other things -- and I certainly don't want to pay the $$ for an iAnything.

                            Thanks all !!

You can't access Google Play (The new market) with the original rom. Amazon marketplace can be downloaded from Amazon using the stock web browser. 1 mobile market can also be downloaded that has most of the free apps which are on the Google market. You need a custom rom also for root access. A rom dump is the original rom from your tablet that has been downloaded to a computer so it can be modified. Chuck

                                thanks

thanks, Chuck. That was quick and succinct. I'm looking for a functional device out of the box -- I'm not that much of a hacker. Amazon market is good enough 4 me. One thing I forgot to check on -- does the Nextbook have SD or mSD slot? or am I limited to onboard storage. Does it recognize the Kindle app? As long as I can download a few game and a lot of books, I can be very happy.
                                thanks again, gang.
PS -- one other, if I may? As an example, what is expected battery life doing, say, just reading a book.
