2.0 GingerComb ROM + 3G stick

Hi,

2.0 installed and working really well - having a bit of a hard time getting used to the new UI but it is splendid!
3G stick doesn't work but that was expected as it's based on the Philly ROM, everything else looking good so far.

New post here so Bob can post test roms for me as and when he can (thanks Bob!!)

From what I understand, the "phlly's" 10 G2 kernel included in this rom fixes a lot of issues but breaks some 3G sticks compatibility. Bob just told he has tried to release a 2.0A version with the "old" 10G2 kernel. But it seems that bugs in this "old" kernel make it incompatible with the 2.0 rom.

Maybe he will fix it, but it seems to be a lot of work, so if you really need your 3G stick, I think you will hav to flash back to 1.5 and wait for bob to find a way to make it work or arnova to release their kernel source (just joking : they suck).

I am analyzing LIB files now between the 2 ROMs. First I got to get the old kernel to boot with the philly ROMs system.img. If fact I just got it to boot by using all the lib.so files from the old non-philly ROM. Now it's just finding which have to stay and which have to go.

I see in the old non-philly rom there is a huwai 3g .so file and a few other lib files that are not in the philly ROM.
This probably also means that the kernel does not have the .ko module as well.
I have some .ko modules I can insmod into the kernel and see if the lib files will work with the new kernel.

So lets do that first before trying to get to 2.0 again on this. I think I can get 3G working on the new kernel and system.

Mr. Weelson... Are you willing to help test?

More than happy to test - not vital though so I don't mind waiting if you've other things on!
If nothing else it'll give you more things to learn about the kernel!

I did try booting the newer Philly stock kernel and my 3g stick didn't work on that either so it wasn't a surprise to me when it didn't work on 2.0.

I am getting closer. Only 9 lib files are different. I just need to find out which ones are needed by the old kernel to boot up properly.

Once I have that, then I will make you a TEST 1.5 ROM with the new kernel and older needed lib files. Then lets see if 3G works.

Mr. Weelson, this will be great if we can get this fixed and thanks for helping.

OK I got the new philly system working with the old kernel. So that would be an interesting test I "may" have you do. Not sure yet.

Once I got that working and knew what lib files were needed I am seeing now if I can make a gingercomb 2.0 with the old kernel. So far NO success.

I am going to try a little more because this back and forth is teaching me even more now. But if I cant get it working I think I know how to get 3G working on the new kernel.

Stay tuned... Imay have something today or later tomorrow.

All installed fine, a couple of problems :
Good news - 3G stick is recognised.
Bad news - stock browser crashes (process com.android.browser) when I try to launch, as does Google Play, this crashes when I try to sign in to the market, crashes when after I click 'Sign In' (process com.google.process.gapps).

The only thing I didn't do this time was flash the new loaded - hopefully that didn't make a difference as I did this the first time I flashed 2.0.

It's so close though - thanks for this!

On the bootup screen, the first time I installed 2.0 it said 'Freaktab.com'. Installing the 3G test version this changed to 'Arnova', I've now flashed standard 2.0 and it still says 'Arnova'...

<edit> - cancel that, like the idiot I am, I re-flashed the 3G test version instead of the original 2.0!

Make sure you select the loader and try a re flash with the test Rom to see if this cures the force. Closes
