I just picked one up a Big Lots an hour ago.
I see there is a rooted ROM available for this now, except I am confused a bit. The model number for this is the NEXT7S, but the ROM is for a NEXT7PS. Will it work with this model?Jim

Once installed restart the tablet and goto google play, install gmail and everything syncs good to go.

Now that I have been using this device for several hours, I have noticed a few things about it worth noting.
1. The screen is not so responsive. In fact, it kind of feels a little "tacky" to my finger, and my finger wants to stick to it (I am not a sweaty person). I have tried cleaning it with microfibre, which helped a bit, but still not like the 701i.
2. It has locked up on me twice, using the Finless root ROM. May or may not be related. I don't know.
EDIT: It has not locked up again since, going on 2 days now.
3. When using APEX launcher. It has no text below the icons. Also, the Apex Launcher will change icon sizes on it's own. I never had this with the 701i. EDIT: This appears to be a problem with Apex launcher thinking this unit is a phone, and not a tablet.
4. I had to swap the SDCard and the internal storage by editing the void.fstab file. That alone fixed many issues.
5. It does not automatically switch to USB host mode. This had to be done manually in Settings.
6. The Development Menu contains many more options than the 701i.
EDIT: Ignore this one. I was having a brain fart moment.
7. Market does not allow install of all apps. I cannot install my purchased Swiftkey X Tablet keyboard on this device. This may be more of a problem with how the tablet identifies itself. Swiftkey reports...you appear to be running Swiftkey Tablet X for tablets on a PHONE. DUH. I wonder how to fix this?
EDIT: This is now most certainly a problem with how the tablet is identified. This is already affecting at least two apps. Apex Launcher, and SwiftKey Tablet. I think this could be fixed in the build.prop file, but what do I change?
8. Slacker Radio works, it does not on the 701i
9. Battery life SUCKS!
10. Cannot make Google Talk work. It exits immediately.
11. adb devices does not show the tablet. It shows my Motorola phone, and my Poloroid just fine. I am using Fedora 14 with the latest Android SDK updates.
12. Google Calendar does not sync. My account is there, but when I got to settings, click on my account name, it says No Calendars. This happened to me on my Polaroid too when using the Market Fix.
More to come......
NOTE: I am sure any bugs that are discovered are also part of the factory ROM, not Finless' rooted ROM. Rooting does NOT create bugs.Last edited by Lexridge; 29 May 2012, 19:05.Jim

Netflix working?
I picked up a NEXT7S biglots, flashed the rooted rom. So far everything is working for me exept Netflix app. The app will load and I can scroll up and down, but it will not respond to any other touch, therefor I cannot select a movie.
It is a YF0312, and I am using Finless Rom.
Is Netflix working for anyone?

That does not surprise me. A number of low-end tablets are experiencing issues with Netflix.
Finless, I have a tablet that has NOT been changed in ANY way. I can make a list of known issues with the stock ROM and post them here. That way, perhaps people will realize that the manufacturer is to blame for these issues.

I was not surprised to have it fail, logs on, scrolls but that's it.
However, HBOGO and DriectTV work great on my tablet as do movies that I have downloaded and installed on my external card. I am very happy with this table and the ability to have root. my only wish is that when Finless or other pros gets the time that they would consider adding the ability to log this onto gplay as a phone. I can't put my banking app on this one (yet). He fixed the NextBook 7 P. But, I can wait, I'm retired.
Thanks for everything everyone has done.

It gives me a REALLY good feeling to have been a part of all this.
You MIGHT be able to change your build.prop file to 'fool' Play Store into thinking you have a phone. This is covered elsewhere on the Web, I'm pretty sure.
As for THIS boy, I don't think I'd WANT to do banking on my tablet.
As for my siggy, '73' is a what amateur radio operators send in Morse code to say 'Best Regards'. The 'DE' stands for 'Distant End', and, lastly, my FCC-assigned callsign (actually, the one I asked for, and had to pay for) - N4RPS. So, what I'm saying is 'Best Regards from N4RPS'.
We DO have other hams on the forum; I just go as far as saying so from the git-go...

What are other users seeing in terms of battery life? If I go from 100% to 0, I get a max of around 3 hours (brightness turned low, volume turned low), and surfing the web, even less (closer to 2 hours). Not a deal breaker, but would certainly like a bit more juice.
Also, my battery light doesn't turn orange; it stops at 99% and stays red. Is this consistent with everyone else or should I try to exchange this?

I got one but I may have to take it back and keep my Polaroid instead. One of my Bible Apps does not work on there. In installed it and it said installing. Then it came up and said app does not work. Sigh. And it's one I have been using alot and love. I wonder what the problem is?
Someone mentioned about how the screen tap works and feels. It's the same way for me. I think I like the Polaroids better. But on both it is so easy to tap the wrong thing by mistake.
One thing I am not liking is the keyboard makes tapping sound when you type and I can't figure out how to shut them off. Very annoying.
Also on the Polaroid it has a widge you can put on the home screen to easily turn it off. I can't find one on the Nextbook. Really like the turn off widget on the Polaroid,
The camera is not so good. Pics are grainy and it looks like it maybe made for taking pics of yourself, the way it is oriented. It is hard to get yourself in the pic just right or take pics of other with it. I think the problem with the grainyness/darkness is due to no flash on it. Not too concerned about the camera as I have a digital camera my late hubby bought me which is goofing up on me and may have to be fixed. And my cellphone has a camera.
If I could get that Bible app the Colonial Heights, VA Baptist Church app (com.subsplash.thechurchapp.chbaptist) to work, I'd keep it and take back the Polaroid as it's cheaper. But if I can't get it to work, then I'll have to take it back and keep the Polaroid. We'll see. The Nextbook seems pretty good so far other than that one app not working.Tablets: Polaroid PMID 701i, PMID 4311, Zeki 10" tablet

Thanks so much for the info. Earlier today I went in there messing with the settings and figured out on my own how to fix it. Whether or not I keep it or the Polaroid depends on whether I can get my apps to work on the Nextbook.Tablets: Polaroid PMID 701i, PMID 4311, Zeki 10" tablet

You guys are what makes android what it is.
You are the kind of guys that make android devices epic. Thanks for modding everything.
I picked up a next7s (resistive) a few days ago and tried to add Google apps to it and failed. I gave up on it until i found this thread.
A few questions.
Is there or is there not a ROM for the Next7s (resistive) yet or is it still being worked on?
And where the heck do I find my serial number?
Thanks in advance.
