    Pipo M8HD RileyROM 1.5 KitKat

Warning: This ROM is no longer available!!!!!
The original firmware was NOT for the M8HD.

We are still waiting on a KitKat update from Pipo.

This ROM is based on an official Pipo firmware update dated 2/20/2014.

I'm not sure of the changes that were made. I didn't get a change log. I did notice a different loader.bin, so I suggest you leave the default alone and go ahead and flash this new loader.

I've also included TWRP recovery, instead of CWM Recovery in this ROM. After the first boot, TWRP will be automatically installed. It must use the stock recovery during the first boot sequence to format all of the partitions, from then on, you will have TWRP.

    IMPORTANT FACTS

All I can say is DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE FLASHING THIS ROM, BECAUSE THERE ARE RISKS!!!!!!!!

    1. You MUST flash the RK3188Loader(L)_V2.09.bin the first time you flash this ROM. KitKat requires this new loader to run. If you choose to go back to Jellybean...you MUST flash the loader for that ROM. The loaders aren't interchangeable. If you forget this, you WILL BRICK YOUR TABLET.

    2. NONE of the files in a KitKat ROM are backward compatible with Jellybean files...so you can't use an OC kernel from my Jellybean ROM with this ROM, or you will not boot.

    3. Read these threads about flashing KitKat ROM's:
    http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...G-A-KITKAT-ROM!!!!!

    4. If you get stuck in a recovery loop (keeps booting to recovery, not system)...read this thread:
http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...e-Here-s-a-fix I included the misc_system.img in this ROM kit.

If items 1 and 2 above weren't clear enough for you...read this thread: KitKat ROM's

    This ROM is:

    Rooted
    Not much to debloat
    Init.d support
    Busybox support
    English Language
    Google Play Store fixes
    VPN support
    2, 4, 6, 8, 12gb user app space choices (default 4gb)
Auto Install feature added on first boot (see this thread for details of this feature)
    TWRP Recovery by abdul_pt
    Latest Reboot app by Petrus
    Boot Animation by Tattman65
    Updated First Time User's Guide
RkBatchTool included as an alternate way to "switch" to flash mode
    New RK Driver Installer app

Edit: this is now 1.5a, to hopefully solve the problem with the ROM not booting (which is always a bad thing). I replaced the kernel.img with the stock kernel, and updated a newer version of TWRP recovery that is specific to the M8HD.

      Hi and T H A N K S!!!!

I will try it as soon as possible, but I will need a bit of time since I am (and feel) still so "green" about android flashing and stuff...

In the meantime, a question for the more able and experienced of You: does this rom has the problem of power regulation and/or screen corruption such as the previous one (since it was based on original "flawed" rom from Pipo...)??????

I ask just because It will be the "first time" for me to flash an android rom and, since it seems to me that it is a bit complex (the new loader for KK first, then all the other things to do, etc..) and I'd like to try it when I will at least know if the biggest problems (battery or screen issues are indeed "big" problems) are solved... then I will try my best to test it...

I cant' wait to test it... let's hope!!!

      Small addition:

Using my actual M8HD rom (the stock rom, a bit debloated and rooted) I experience not-so-good wifi reception performance: using same equipment and very same positions, I got the worst signal performace than ANY other device I use (laptops, smartphone, other tablet, etcc...) sometimes I even loose signal... is there any way to boost-up the signal a little???

      A.

      P.S.

      @RRileypm:

Again: many thanks!!! I was waiting for something like this since a loooooonng time!

        Hi,

I erased IDB then flashed it, nothing went wrong during the process as in 1.3.1. Loader was checked.
Then it reboot and the screen is totally black, windows doesn't recognize what is connected through the usb port.
Anyway I can access the flash mode with the 3 buttons step, so I tried to reflash it but same result: black screen.

        What is going on?

          Don`t start

          Hello,

I follow all the steps and it does not work. The screen lights up but does not advance. Misc_system and misc install later, but does not work. What do I do wrong?

All standard Android languages are present, but the Chinese keyboard has been removed (sorry). I'm sure there is an aftermarket Chinese keyboard that will work for you.

As will most ROM's I do for tablets I don't actually have to test, sometimes there is something not quite right in the process.

I've uploaded v1.5a to test. I made a few changes, and also included a newer version of TWRP Recovery that is specific to the M8HD. Just follow the link in post #1...it has been changed to the new version.

I hope this will solve the problem, however if it doesn't, I will have to wait until Sunday to continue work on it. I start a 12 hour shift in the ER until late tonight. Please be patient.

If this version won't work...just go back to 1.4 until we get this ironed out.

Since we all have a black screen, doesn't it mean the loader is wrong ? Might have been corrupted, I don't know I'll try later tonight with another one taken from the internet.

Thanks for your work anyway Riley

No, it isn't the loader...I think it was the kernel. The graphic I used to brand the kernel may not have been correct.

Did the tablet boot to recovery first?

When the flash is done it reboots to a black screen (but with light just no display) for 5sec then reboots again with the blackscreen and stay stuck.

Hmmmmmmm, so it doesn't even go into recovery....let me think about that one.

Try flashing back to 1.4 and see if that works, and I will think about what the next step should be.

I'm getting ready to start a 12 hour shift in the Emergency Room...so I'm done for the day, but I will make this a priority Sunday project to get this working for you. I know I can do some testing on my M7 Pro tablet.

I'm going to take the link down, so nobody will have to experience the same problem.

                            Riley, congratulations for your work.

I have done all the steps and I can not start the recovery. My screen was black.

                            Thanks.

                              @JVaquero:

If U were not sure, or experienced, enough, U should have waited a bit more (like I did, since I am not experienced enough) and looked and waited a bit for comments and opinions of more experienced users. Also a bit of risk is always to be accounted for when flashing and doing such things. Only a few hours have passed since the opening of the thread announcing the new version of the firmware.

Now, since other users already tried and promptly posted about the problems and RRileypm quickly posted about the problem, I actually cannot see why U are writing such things and putting all the blame on the one who is working so hard to give us something nicer and better, asking for nothing in return of his work.

IMHO U should have been way more careful and surely less sarcastic....

This unlucky setbak just means we have to wait a little bit more and have patience.
