That's correct, if you are flashing the kernel to another ROM...but I've stripped the kernel from boot.img in all of my ROM's. So on a RileyROM, all you need to do is flash the Kernel.
There are a bunch of things I do in the boot.img, so it's best to leave that alone.Randy

Usually, I just add support for init.d and also root for KK ROMs and am doing it by adding few premade strings to init.rc using the simplest bash script. Sometimes by someone's request, I swap internal and external SD in KK too. imho nothing else needs modification in original ramdisk.
thehobit, these issues might be hardware related and there is no way to fix them except using kernel with downclocked CPU and resoldering WiFi antenna.

Already heard about other cases with this WiFi issue. Have a guess some tablets might have different WiFi chip which is almost the same broadcom based but curent KK drivers are not fully compatible.
