    Battery Life

    Hi Bob,

Do you think that moving the kernel out decreases the battery life? When i put my nextbook 7p12 se to standby last night, after having at least 80% power, it was dead this morning. Any thoughts on why this might be? I know, i know, check your settings, turn off wifi, kill extra apps in the background, which i did.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

Moving the kernel out should not do that. You might try the stock ROM and see if it does the same thing?

Battery life, as I've mentioned in a couple of other threads, is kind of bad on the 7S (resisitive) and I'd assume similarly bad on the capacitive. It's got nothing to do with the ROM. You NEED to turn off the unit fully, or it drains in a day or two on standby; make a habit of holding that power button down! I just disabled phone.apk, so will charge the unit up and see if it helps at all with overall life. Otherwise, I get about 2 hours if I'm using it heavily (nonstop surfing/videos) and 3ish of more sporadic use.

I bought the Polaroid that was at Big Lots and then when the Nextbook went onsale at BL got it, deciding to keep whichever of the 2 worked best. I ended up keeping the Polaroid and taking back the Nextbook, cuz battery life of the Nextbook was lower than on the Polaroid. I could get 4 or 5 hrs out of the Polaroid but the Nextbook only gave me 2 hrs. Plus a couple of the apps I wanted to run did not work on the Nextbook but did on the Polaroid. It's a shame cuz I liked how the Nextbook was lighter than the Polaroid. And the wifi hung on there a little better when there was a low signal than on the Polaroid. If the battery life had been longer and those 2 apps works, I would've keep the Nextbook instead of the Polaroid.

I've unfortunately come to the same conclusion as cheryl. The battery life is just bad. You get about 2 hours of life while surfing the web, even after disabling the phone.apk. Part of the point of a tablet is portability, but needing to charge this sucker every day gets annoying. Needing to have it fully boot up every time to conserve the battery life is annoying. It's a shame, because I really liked the build quality, the feel, the screen (in spite of being resistive), everything about this little tablet. I'm going to be returning mine and hunting for a Polaroid 701c (as the 701i allegedly has wireless problems) and if that fails, grabbing the 702c Biglots has on sale this weekend.

            Hello!

ICS tablets just don't seem to do ad-hoc WiFi well, if at all...

When I did this ROM I did not try to add the wifi_supplicant from the old Gingerbread ROM to see if it works. You guys are now rooted so you can try it!

I agree with Buster. I loved the Nextbook except for the short battery life and it not wanting run a few of the programs I use. Shame cuz it was a nice tablet otherwise and a good deal. I can't exchange my Polaroid for any newer ones they get in cuz it's probably been a month now since I got it an they'd probably say it was too late to exchange. When I took back the Nextbook on Tues, they were all out of tablets.

So yeah. I got the current tablet they have on sale (Polaroid 702C) and wow, it is just a huge difference. The battery life is much better, the bloatware is far less, the performance seems smoother, the capacitive screen is great...even little things like the charger (charges through the micro USB) and micro SD port (flimsy as hell on the 7S) are just an improvement. I'd go so far as to say anyone who got the Next 7S should exchange it for a Polaroid, because the tablet's just that much better.

I get at minimum 8 hours battery from my Nextbook Premium 7. You just have to tweak a few settings. So maybe the Nextbook 7S just has a crap battery, or ICS requires more juice to run basic operations than the Nextbook 7S was designed for. I have a feeling the 7S was not optimized for ICS, and was just a rush job to get product to market.

For now, I'll stick with Gingerbread on my Premium 7 as it has a good performance record and does everything I need it to do with the Finless 1.5 rom.

I've installed juice defender and set it to aggressive, and in sometimes I could juice out 14h from it...

I've opened my 7s, and it looks like they left quite a bit of space for the battery. Yet they put one in there that only takes up just over half the space. It's 11.1 w/hr.

I managed to find a 9000mah battery that should fit, for $35 online. That should roughly triple the battery life.

I just may do it for the hell of it.

After some fooling around with it, I noticed that if i manually turn off the wifi and put the nextbook to sleep, it has battery left in it the next day. However, if I put it to sleep with the wifi still on, the battery's dead over night (less than 7hrs). Is this a setting in ICS? Bob, is this what you were referring to about the wifi_supplement from Gingerbread (a couple of posts earlier)?

                          Thanks,

Not sure the supplicant would effect battery life?

But if you want to try it, here is the post to read about replacing it and the download for the new supplicant file:

                              Hi Tony,

Did you manage to replace the battery in your nextbook? If so, did it make a difference and could you send me the link where you found it?

                              Thanks,
