    1080 requests 4.2 RK3066

I wanted to start a new thread for requests for 1080 kernels...Please include as much info as you can about the chipsets kernel version etc so it can be searchable and don't do the same kernels again. I will do the best I can...I can only do 4.2 kernels at the moment...

This is for rk3066 4.2 kernels only.

Again thank you finless for the initial hack and the original person who did it on 4.1.(cant remember the guy on the other forum)

It was Dero that initially diffed the files.

To kick things off please hex edit this one for users of the original 808/B ... it's a 720p 409j version OC'd. http://ge.tt/8eFVF1c1/v/0?c

Never uploaded to the public side until now.

    Thanks Prahjister!

Wow that was quick. You have one hell of a system; saved it myself in case I ever need it. Thanks again.

this overlocked kernel doesn't need boot.img?

Prahjister, Are we building any of the kernels from source? found that Omegamoon appears to have updated source for the mk808b kernel. Id love to understand the differences and similarities to your methods.

            This is his source:
Generic Rockchip GPL Linux Kernel. Contribute to omegamoon/Rockchip-GPL-Kernel development by creating an account on GitHub.

No just changing some hex bits to convert. The stock kernels are pretty good except 720....i dont see a reason to build from source....and i havent ventured down that path....just learning linux.

Oh okay! I currrently build roms for the SGH-I757M. Its a phone, Samsung S2 HD LTE. I am pretty familiar with linux, but I've been getting familar with building kernels and roms from source. Ive never saw the hex method until now.

Really great work that you are doing. So to help me understand more, what is being overclocked in your mk808b kernel? In which situations are these awesome heatsink setups necessary? How can I help you?

I never publicly posted an OC kernel and i modified with RKPatchomatic...It is supposed to overclock the GPU and RAM....i have never set down and tested which one is actually working....I know something is overclocked...both 3d and memory scores go up....I have been running 533 gpu and 533 ram for quite a while now at 1080....it runs as fast as stock 720....i have never set down and oc just the gpu and tested and just the ram and tested....the process takes so much time...I only use a usb fan that i took out of an old case and cut a usb cable and connected the leads to keep cool....That is because of the oc and with my govenor setup, if i do anything it is pushed it to full speed...but it will idle down....we dont have a battery so can do this. Good USB cable and power suppy is mandatory for proper function.

If you can compile a kernerl at stock 1.6 and only change to 1.8 as top frequency....i can do a dif and find out what changes and hopefully modify stock to 1.8. That would be excellent....

I'll see what I can do. my rig went down, (it was really nice core2duo too) I am looking into putting a build environment on this laptop. I currently only have a mobile connection at my place, but I have full internet at my gf's. So I might need a bit to get things set up properly, if you are willing to be patient. I also wonder how hard it would be to get 4.4.2 onto this stick.... or if there is even source available for roms.

Is this problem, you want a 1.8Ghz overclock, but you want it to default to 1.6Ghz? I am very new to compiling ONLY kernels, but I am willing to learn. So far, Ive only built kernels alongside a rom for my phone. Is this something that hasnt been attainable by anyone yet? or is this something new you are asking for?

I need 2 kernels with the only thing differrent is the top speed so that i can hex a stock kernel and modify it. Omegamoon has an OC kernel on his blog but it is 4.1 and no stock to compare it to.

You might be able to port over a rk3188 rom and build a 4.4 kernel.

4.2 is pretty darn good and no one is developing for the rk3066 anymore.

Tested this kernel today (flashed ontop of stock 409j ROM) and here are the results:

couldn't upload as attachments on freaktab for some reason.

Anyway, I used the TV's built-in usb port to power the device, so maybe you can get better results with a good PSU. Not sure if GPU and RAM are OC'd... Guessing both. The device wasn't getting too hot, I played a few short 1080p clips in MX Player with (5.1 modified) ARM Neon codec which seemed to work OK. I've only got one full length 1080p video file, so maybe one day I will test that out to see if it makes it through the entire thing without overheating. Also, I'll give the RC1 XBMC a try when I have a chance.

By the way, if anyone wants to compare these results to the STOCK 409j rom, here's my results from that test: http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...l=1#post171891

edit: I am getting very poor wifi speed (download at ~60kb/s) with this kernel --- It's likely due to me not having a good enough power source, but still thought I would mention it.

^How does android 4.2 feel? Is it as responsive as 4.1 720p?
Also try beyond xbmc instead of gotham 13, for 1080p files.

Apparently GUI acceleration works in 4.2 --- here is what ididmytime says about 4.2 compared to 4.1:

GPU GUI accelation is nice on 4.2, but you can't beat the raw speed a genuine custom kernel provides on 4.1, especially when it comes to XBMC.
Personally, comparing Digitop's 4.1 ROM with the stock 4.2 (720p) ROM, they felt pretty much the same to me. There's really no way for me to properly test the OC'd kernels (4.1 or 4.2) unless I buy a better power source. The next ROM that I will test will likely be Prahjister's current release to see how it compares to 409j stock (using the same tv/power source as my previous test, of course).
