SpeedTest.net is invariably more optimistic than some other test sites - however, my speeds there correlate with yours. At no time do I see Ethernet with a clear advantage over wifi - which is a bit odd.

My gbox mx2 always got about 16-17mb/s and my rk3188 device always got the max 55mb/s. I'm not sure if the M8 firmware is limiting the ethernet speed to just 27mb/s but i did get 55mb/s 3 times out of maybe 25 tests lol. Its weird that I rarely ever get that speed though. I tried it on every firmware and same results. Has anyone gotten higher speeds consistently with this box and if so, which speed test did you use? Obviously network speed is a very big deal when using xbmc

      Very Interesting

That's interesting - we have both collected the same hardware - Matricom MX2 and (in my case) MK908 - and we have both experienced almost the same variations in wired speeds. As you say, on Ethernet speeds, the RK 3188 runs rings around the Amlogic devices every time - but the latter still handle XBMC better overall.

I do believe that it's a firmware limitation and very likely the bottleneck is in the kernel. Even with the MK 908, there were great disparities in wired (and Wi-Fi) speeds among different iterations of its firmware. Let's see if anyone has bested your 27mbps with the M8; the most I've seen has been 34 mbps, which was not sustained or repeated. I should be getting a steady 50 - 55 mbps..my connection and cables are clean!

I can get 32mb/s on the M8 but thats after running the same test 5 times in a row. It went up slightly each time I ran it. Majority of the time its 27-28 though with the very rare 55-56.

Yes wifi 5ghz rubbish if further than 4 to 5 meters, 2,4ghz is pretty good as normal like other units, Ethernet slower then wifi go figure this one out miss calculations on the network firmware

True its same on dual core M6 boxes Wifi is faster than Ethernet
