    Well I got the XBMC Gotham final to work on my M8 with no hacks,

    steps I took

    - go system/settings/video
    -change your Setting level to Expert, (its at the bottom)
    -now look for acceleration and disable all HW accel's but (libstagefright)
    -Reboot XBMC and viola 1080p kindness

    i did have a few videos making the box reboot, so not sure how well this will work

    I hope this helps

      I confirm This method works
      Thanx for the info...

      P.s if you exit back to menu while watching 1080p that makes the video playback choppy at the background...

                isnt libstagefright just some hacked up work around for non amlogic devices? I think ill wait for the new version that lets us use the decoder that was designed for our chipset. On my RC1, I disable all hw decoders except amlogic and it plays perfectly stable and in sync.

                  is this for streams or local usb media sync issue and is it for hdmi or just a/v?

                          I already did it, installed an ssh server and connected via terminal, changed the permissions and the error of not being able to open the codec is gone, but video is still just a black screen, it didn't work.
                          I have been trying to understand why and is all about permissions. It seems that in order to resolve them all, they allow the firmware to run this package as a system application, I confirmed that xbmc apk that comes pre installed with firmware run as system user, where official xbmc apk don't, and even when at start up xbmc tries to fix some permissions, it is not enough, as Davilla mentioned in another post, is not xbmc's job to fix this.
                          I also read that in order to allow an application to run as system user, its package signature must be allowed to do it so, since the moment of compiling the firmware.
                          So, in summary, engineers building the firmwares need to figure out what permissions xbmc requires to the video codec (and is not just /dev/am*) and find a way to allow user applications to access all dependency files without being system user.

                            If you have installed this firmware;

                            you do not need to do anything XBMC works perfectly...

                            for the final version do this;

                            - go system/settings/video
                            -change your Setting level to Expert, (its at the bottom)

                            or wait for the one compiled for our box...

                              Pictures looked cropped on 72-p screens so we continue to wait

                                Yes, I can use libstagefright with my current firmware, the problem is that I want to use amcodec, in my experience amcodec has been more stable than libstagefright, which freezes unexpectedly and some specific videos just won't play
