Finally I managed to program the 102K4.
I just used the flash tool to format the SDcard and make it bootable (??). Then copied files to the SDcard and used the normal upgrade app with sdcard in the S89 to upgrade.

I now see the following information:
    Model : S89
    Android : 4.4.2
    Build : 102K4

    Kernel 3.10.33

BUT still NO HDMI !! Only AV.

Attn. Geekbuying: What can we do to solve this.
HDMI worked the first day. But now not anymore. I can not get it to work.
    Faulty S89???

The problem is, that without hdmi you are not able to reflash rom via toothpick (reset via A/V hole) & SD card, but I don't know if you are able to handle the USB tool method with the flashtool at pc and the img file without working hdmi...

Worth case the hdmi port bricks...
I used this method without connecting any hdmi or av cables and once completed I was able to use the box with a av cable. The icons and setup looked very different with the row of icons at the bottom. Then I connected the hdmi/divi cable to my monitor and I had a very different boot screen and desktop. It looked like I was running two different operating systems

I was finally able to give my farther the box today after the updates and addons, I tried his tv when he was not in the room and all I can say is it worked without any problems . Fair to say that I am over the moon.

He also has a similar age Panasonic and the problem must lie some ware inbetween the specs of these two tvs. I am not sure if this could go back to what finless said about hdmi 1.2 and 1.4

        Fully working
        http://uk.hardware.info/productinfo/...specifications.

        Not working

        using the same hdmi cable.

it maybe worth compiling a list of non working TV sets for future buyers.

also to note, I found that frodo 12.3 worked flawlessly using the latest stock firmware

I thought I may as well add my monitor specs for comparison, that semi-worked even though the picture went pink after a while and the and horizontal lines(as in my video earlier in this thread). The response time is the same 5ms as the working tv and the dynamic contrast is the same as the non working tv. The resolution is only 1680x1050
            http://www.engadget.com/products/acer/p223w/

in this review from cnet, it states that the working tv is not even 1.3. I noticed the non working tv has a slightly longer refresh rate and a lower dynamic contrast than the working tv, other than that both TV sets support 24p and have hdtv 720p 1080i and full hd 1080p and the same native resolutions.

My thought is that it could it all be down to the refresh rate on the tvs. Obviously my thoughts would be blown out of the water if the cnet review was wrong and it was 1.3 or that the refresh rate would make no difference Also the working tv is older than the non working one.

Trust me,i have spent over 12 hours each day to check this problem with factory, and push them to give solution, the factory is meeting with amlogic right now, i will push them to find the problem, hardware or software?

if your device really have problem, and we thought it is DOA, we will handle the return for you. i promise it won't be a pain for you to deal with GeekBuying.

Geekbuying does seem the way to go. It's a far better response than I received at mcbub after I had asked them if there is a fix for the lack of output.

                  "hello there
thank you for your email and could you please tell me whether the connect of the HDMI is ok, and could you please show me a video about how you make it work , and generally speaking , there would be no such problem , and this is the first time we met , because before we shipped it out , we would test whether it can work or not , thank you a lot , looking for your reply
                  best regards
                  MOLLY"

i think that something must have been lost in translation (or I am a bit thick), at least she was friendly.

I have the same issue HDMI worked the first day, next day no signal from HDMI. AVI works
I bought 2 units, the second Tronsmart works fine, no issues.

                    reply from Geekbuying
"Here do not worry, for the case ,you just need to adjust the Output resolution over 720P. Here if it still the same ,please download a video and update it on a site like youtube then send the link to us .

AND I don't think at the s802 they 'suddenly' backward compatible

                      BTW:
IT66121FN is the chip used at my rk3188 box (also at radxa) which runs at my tv

"The IT66121 is a high-performance and low-power single channel HDMI transmitter, fully compliant with HDMI 1.3a, HDCP 1.2 and backward compatible to DVI 1.0 specifications. IT66121 also provide the HDMI1.4 3D feature, which enables direct 3D displays through an HDMI link."
The problem with the RK3188 devices is, that the Chinese guys destroy / dry out there market by them self because use so much different pcb/motherboard layout and also at least use a cheaper and less performance RK3188T...
As I know, MINIX x7 use the original RK3188 and have always the same pcb/motherboard layout, so the mod rom devs support it as well...
You only have to find out (ask at the MINIX x7 sub-forum here at the board) if MINIX also use the IT66121FN...

Hey all, just wanted to let every one Know that Geek Buying has agreed to DOA my s89 and give me a refund. they have been really good to deal with considering the distance.
its annoying that the product didn't work but can't fault their support.

I was going to purchase another but after reading this Forum now i'm not sure. however i did try mine on 2 TVs and 2 Monitors with the same results.

That is good news, you never know it may be worth having a go at the s89-h.

sorry to go off tangent, but I have finally convinced the mrs that we need a new tv. I have been looking at a Panasonic Viera TX-L50E6B LED, as I need to keep the cost down as a compromise.
I have tried to google what hdmi standard it is using, but as usual have no definitive answer. Is it safe to assume that it would be 1.4a or 1.4b? And is this tv any good in general

                            Tv link http://www.johnlewis.com/panasonic-v...-hd/p231889201

if this tv is good enough I will test it with the s89 and buy a s89-h for myself
Thank you for all your responses past and present.

                              Unfortunately just for one night......

                              I seriously think it's the S89
                              I think it's the S89 too. I just received two standard S89.

I connected the first box to Samsung UN40D6300 and the TV did not
detect HDMI input. I changed the HDMI cable, but still no HDMI input.

So, I just switched to the 2nd box using the same HDMI cable and power
cale, and the TV detected the HDMI input immediately!

Since only the difference is the S89 box, it has to be the S89.
But I am not sure what to do next. Since I used regular airmail, it took
two weeks to get here, so by the time I return this and get a replacement,
MiniX X8 will be already released...
