CPU control patcher for the M8 Square box

OK folks, I finally got around to figuring out how to mod the CPU parameters that are set on boot.
I am hoping this will solve some issues some are reporting.

This set of 3 was made using the latest acemax ROM 5/12.

WARNING! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!
I am not responsible if you fry your box!
While I have not overclocked the CPU, I have changed it's default settings.
While I have tested this and it does not overheat my box, your mileage may vary!

What does this do you ask?
It modifies the system and sets the CPU to the following defaults.
There are 3 different ZIPs here to try:

    acemax_cpu_fix_696.zip
    Min Frequency 696000
    Max Frequency 1992000
    Scaling Interactive

    acemax_cpu_fix_816.zip
    Min Frequency 816000
    Max Frequency 1992000
    Scaling Interactive

    acemax_cpu_fix_1296.zip
    Min Frequency 1296000
    Max Frequency 1992000
    Scaling Interactive

I suggest you install Antutu CPU Control (free) to see what your CPU is doing.
No-Frill's CPU Control also shows good info about all 4 cores.
CPU-Z is another good CPU monitoring tool.
All 3 above work for reading proper CPU info.
However as of yet they will not change the CPUs. I am working on that.

Oh and to use these CPU APPs you must be rooted!
So install me EZ ROOT.zip which is included in this package.

OK so there you go.... Time for some testing from you all!!!

    Here are the download links.

FYI I just took apart the lifeforce ROM and this patcher will work on it but you will loose root daemon and init.d support.

Again I usually don't like messing with other peoples ROMs.

Bottom line if Lifefore wants to make a patcher I can tell him what to do. It is clear he knows how to take apart boot.img and edit init.rc. In fact his init.d and root daemon lines look exactly like mine (they are in exactly the same place I put them in init.rc)

So how you edit the CPU info is to take apart boot.img and edit:

    init.amlogic.board.rc file

These lines are what you edit:

    write /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq 1608000
    write /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_min_freq 96000
    write /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor hotplug
    write /sys/class/freq_limit/limit 0

I installed the acemax_cpu_fixer-696, and everything looks good.

        - Do you have a "back-to-stock- patch for the cpu-fix, just for in-case?
        - Can I backup my rom?

I have installed everything multiple times now (several roms, updates and XBMC versions), It would be great to just have a good backup of my own good rom, is that possible? A rom I can install (back) just like acemax's rom.

        thx

tested patcher.. big drop in ethernet speed xbmc wont open

Ok so i finally got around to testing these patches. In CPU-Z it used to say 1 core active at 1608mhz, other 3 stopped. After the patch it shows all 4 cores being used at 1992mhz which is great so it works. I tried to open xbmc to see if its any quicker but it wont open.. it just crashes to main screen with no errors as soon as I click the icon. I tried reinstalling xbmc but same issue. I reflashed the fw, installed and opened xbmc fine but after I apply this patch, xbmc stops opening. Also seeing a big drop in ethernet speeds.. was getting 75-90 and now I get 50. Anyone else having these issues?

edit: apparently the modded RC1 will not open no matter what after this patch but the regular version works fine. Will try omans version

omans xbmc working.. seems now the decision is whether or not you want higher ethernet speed or this patch.

that's because bobs patcher overrides lifeforces tcp buffer file hence back to shitty speeds
bob did mention he would rls a fix

if he could release a separate tcp buffer patch that would be good or a patch that can apply both settings at once. i personally won't sacrifice the big tcp buffer for a slight increase in responsiveness

bob released a new patcher for lifeforce rom and the fast ethernet speeds are back so use this one
