Is there any chance it could be used to make a M6pro Riley ROM as well, in case Pipo doesn't release one?

We really need that our beloved pipo conforms to GPL and though publish its kernel sources for as many tablets models as we have custom Roms for!!!

Blindly customizing bugous kernel based Android roms without change log ever brings some random satisfaction but we as pasionates and customers deserve much more.

Official firmware are one thing, but us being able to fix and upgrade the kernel is much better, give US the power, pipo !

      Please start the petition.
      Tks.
i'm agree with that. Maybe time is come to change... it"s Rockchip Soc developper to release their kernels sources not branded product manufacturer and android onboard system factory, everyone know that all linux part in android is under GPL and they must conform to it like the others. There's many others devices that have been sold couple year from rockchip debut rk3066,rk3068,rk3188 that hav many problem who have not been solve till today. pipo is not a red devil but rockchip we never see the colors...

All of my rk soc devices have something not stable like a non-finished product developpement board to test android platform. we are the costumer, we are the tester, we are the rom developper and rockchip have to be good with us and conform to GPL like any linux codes users and share their sources.

I've tried flashing the M9 Pro ROM on the M6 Pro with the M6 Pro kernel and found that many things are too different.

I like where this is going.

I have been mailing Anna Yee about root access for the M6pro KitKat update, because of their mantra of "All our tablets are sold rooted" and just a few minutes ago she came with the answer from the technicians: No root access for kitkat.

My bet here is that Pipo isn't going to stick to ARM much in the future, last night one of their reps -Ben Lai- basically asked whether their facebook fans would like them to do more x86 tablets. Maybe since Rockchip and Intel are getting cozy they are going the way of the windows surface.

While I have discovered the su binary present in some of the JB firmware, Pipo has never really implemented a correct root on their devices.

For KitKat, root requires some editing of the boot.img.

Only custom firmware is rooted...like my ROMs.

We can handle rooting, either with custom ROMs, or from apps like Root Genius.

What we are really looking for are the sources to the kernels, so our kernel developers can fix the little problems which plague the stock firmware...like camera compatibility, battery drain, deep sleep, etc. If they can or will fix those problems....great. But as you say, Pipo is moving on to 2014 technology, and can't possibly be planning much more support for the 3188...as they have already stopped supporting 3066 firmware. We need the sources to extend development via our community. Freaktab devs have some TV stick sources....but not tablet sources.

That's what we need to be asking for, now. Otherwise, they need to continue support until they finally give us firmware that fixes all of these outstanding problems before they just leave us hanging with their unfinished work.

So you're saying that there is no precedent where they have released sources for Tablet kernels? I will email them again but it really doesn't look promising. I didn't even get a reply from my first email. From what I've read in other places, the kernel we have is pretty old, I'm guessing it may be a hacked up jb kernel.

The future of rooting and custom roms beyond kitkat looks pretty bleak if you read some of Chainfire's latest articles. It appears that Google is really trying to get things tightened down so they can get some government contracts.

Wouldn't you still need an updated sdk from Rockchip to fix kernel bugs, as finless mentioned? Does anyone know who to email for them?

As Bob said, it should come from Rockchip, but it would be handy to have the actual kernel sources for each of the tablets from 3066 on up. That way at least someone could have a starting point to work from.

Pipo needs to hire some more english support agents, Anna is the only one that gives support she must get 1000's of emails, I wish we could get in touch with the firmware developer too.

WHY don't they include kernel support for exfat its opensource and on Samsung's website (they could then they could officially support 64GB sdcards).
They should also add in a few more kernel modules like cifs, nfs, tun why these are not standard is beyond me....
H96 Pro (S912), CZ-S32-V2.2 (EMMC 100% Died, still functional using Coreelec + SD Boot (uboot loader) / USB (coreelc))
x96Q Max Pro (H616), Slow as F, runs hot, ok for movies.
ChromCast Android TV - Great device but annoying no usb port.

True that. NFS support would be very welcome addition.

if they did not want to include support for "exotic" functions in the initial kernels, so be it,
but they could just let us insmod and cook any additional module into another kernel derived from their.
I personnaly need usbaudio on my M7P and still am not able to find anywhere how to get that simple thing, let alone compile it myself.

if you look in the lib/modules folder of system...I've added those modules and have them insmod'ed in boot.img. They should work, unless new modules are required.
