    Arnova 8G2 8GB - Finless Bob's "GingerComb" Custom ROM Version 2.1 - FINAL

    BETA test is over! The BETA ROM is the Final ROM!

    Thanks for those that tested and made this ROM possible!



    Ok folks. With the success of my "Gingercomb" ROM for the 10G2, 9G2, etc, I am now releasing this same ROM for the Arnova 8G2 8GB model

    This is NOT for the 8G2 4GB model!


    Below is my stock description for Gingercomb and the download links below that.

    PLEASE READ the README.TXT for instructions and what this ROM is about!

    REMEMBER! Just like most my ROMs that have major changes to it, ERASE IDB and FLASH THE LOADER! Do this before reporting any problems! You can have screwy things happen if you do NOT erase IDB. Loader is also very important!

    SUPER IMPORTANT NOTE:
    People are not reading the readme all the way. I undertand it is long.
    If you DO NOTHING ELSE... READ THIS INSTRUCTION

    SUPER IMPORTANT! After the first boot after flashing this ROM..... REBOOT BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING!!!!
    You will probably have no SDcard, the screen may not work, or you have no sound after first boot to the desktop.
    So ALWAYS REBOOT right after the first flash and boot up to the desktop!
    ALSO wait until the desktop stops showing messages at the bottom etc.
    If you reboot too soon, it can hose the file system.
    So on first boot wait at least 2 minutes, no messages are spopping up, and then reboot.
    All will be good from that point on.

      Well Bob you did a cracking job mate. The rom installed first time no issues, the app injector is brilliant and as far as I can tell there is nothing that doesn't work. It's fast and no FC's, has made using this tablet a joy, unlike the original firmaware.

      This rom has the same issues as one of your other roms in so for as the battery icon on the status bar shows a question mark and not the level, however if you press the status bar it does however give you the percentage. Not a huge issue though.

      A couple of questions,

      1. Is this rom compatible with flash 11?
      2. Is there any way to remove the mobile signal icon from the status bar?
      3. Do you have the apk for the original android internet browser?

      Thank you again for doing this rom, I know your a busy man.

      Will send a little something through to your tablet fund soon mate,

          The dual touch is resistive? If so then I don't think it will work, bob will say for sure.

            Yes it supports flash 11!
            The default browser is in APP Injector. You should put it back for sure. Many things need it.
            I cannot remove the mobile signal icon YET... working on that.
            As for the battery icon! Seems you have the same issue as the 7G2 guys! I am working on that. At least your lucky in that clicking it give you a status. For the 7G2 guys. None of that works!

            Thanks for testing. As soon as I figure some stuff out like battery etc, expect some updates.

            NO.... this will NOT workon the Dual Touch... I will do a ROM for that later.

                  Could you tell me if the is a way i can disabled the ethernet connection on boot, maybe a config file i can edit?

                  I can disable it in settings but upon rebooting it re-enables.

                  Just wondering.

                    Go into settings and de select it but you need to keep mobile network settings enabled than reboot.This will remove it from the taskbar. The mobile icon in the taskbar will always be there unfortunately but at least the ugly Ethernet icon is gone

                        Bob,

                        Turns out the battery percentage on the status bar doesn't update until you reboot the tablet. I have tried another battery widget for the desktop and it does the same, updates on reboot and not in between.

                        Dont know if this helps at all but thought i would let you know.

                          Blinky, having just fixed this on the 7G2, it looks like I will have to do the same for the 8G2 as well.

                          I will try to apply the same fix and give you a new release maybe later today.

                            Bob,

                            Question, is there a way to tell the tablet to open some programs upside down. I have just been running temple run, which runs perfectly, but i have to hold the tablet upside down.

                            Now this is not an issue just wondering thats all. Looking forward to further updates as this rom is amazing.

                              I am not sure I can but you can try this blinky. Since your rooted go into /system and edit build.prop.
                              Add this line near the bottom of the lists of things. Just make sure it is under the section "additional properties here"

                              ro.sf.hwrotation=270
                              Or try a value of 180

                              Reboot of course after making the change.

                              Let me know if that works.
