Very new MK808B Clone, some help needed (lost the kernel file)

    Hi there,

today I received my mk808b clone from china.

First I opened the case to identify the model:

TEAN E120339 was the key info leading me to this site. The communication chips are mediatek MT6622N and MT5931SA.

Then I tried to upgrade to Finless 2.1 with 1080p Kernel using this Firmware by grieser: http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...l=1#post169692 I did not click "erase NAND" - if this is important.

After this, BT and WLAN could not be enabled in the settings menu, the slider would just "flip back" into off position.

So I tried to restore the original firmware, however I was not able to make a backup beforehand

so I used Johnoo's files from here: http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...l=1#post152936 Again I did not click "erase NAND" - if this is important.

Now BT works again, but WLAN performance is very bad, eventhough signal strength is excellent.

I noticed that my original Kernel was compiled more recently:

I really need this Kernel ( 3.0.36+ zs@hotack-desktop #1004 builddate 11.03.2014) back, maybe someone can help me?! Please! Maybe there is also another solution?

Your only chance is that someone with the same device dumps and shares his kernel.

I know, but how coud this person do the backup? I tried with MTK Droid Tools v2.5.3 prior to flashing the bad firmware, however the software would not detect the device and thus a backup was not possible

I noticed another bad thing about the version of Johnoo: youtube videos play with a black window, no video is displayed, however sound is playing, damn!

Is there anything I can do?

Will the RK tool work for that chipset?

Hi, yes the tool phinc suggested works for this device, I just tested and a backup IS possible. Too bad I did not find this beforehand. The instructions are a bit long, but very clear in fact. It would be very cool if someone with #1004 kernel (or newer) could backup all data on the device, not just the kernel.

I just tried to combine the Johnoo backup with the system.img from grieser's finless 2.1, but no wifi and bt either, so it's not just the kernel, but also the system.img that is responsible for these functions.

What worked however is taking the system.img from the snakerom (22.07.2013 Version) http://sdrv.ms/1cDZCxp I found in this thread: http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...ll=1#post83892

Wifi BT and youtube work now, however it would be very nice if someone can do the backup anyways.

I was able to recover the #1004 kernel from the backup.img as I did not erase the nand, I uploaded the combination of the new files and the snakerom system.img here: https://mega.co.nz/#!qddEGKoA!1sFOvt...I4Wtlb_wR78Ark this is a rooted image with SuperSU installed, maybe this helps someone.

I'm a complete newbie to this sort of thing but maybe someone can tell me what does it take to make the kernel 1080p capable and control the cpu/gpu frequency? Is this just some kind of kernel boot parameter or initrd matter?

                For 1080p look here: http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...sts-4-2-RK3066
Controlling the CPU frequency should work without any changes to the kernel. Have you tried SetCPU to change the frequency?

SetCPU does not show 1.6GHz as an option, the maximum I can set is 1.4 GHz.

Good news: I was able to restore the complete stock image, imgRePackerRK.exe v1.04 has a bug that prevented the extraction of system.img (it was always 0 bytes) however the linux version worked.

                  Here the stock image: https://mega.co.nz/#!iV0hgS4b!ELMBLE...HN2YwW3nnRMxjU

Now I have another problem, I wanted to use OpenVPN and this requires the tun.ko kernel module. Using the tun.ko installer app downloads a valid kernel module and even insmod works, however as soon as the openvpn app wants to create a new tun device the whole device crashes and reboots

I also tried to downloading another tun.ko file from the droidvpn tun.ko repository by using the original Build and Device identifier: http://tun.droidvpn.com/check.php?m=...device=rk30sdk this gives a different link than http://tun.droidvpn.com/check.php?m=...0615.135019+te however the files are binary equal.

So now I need the kernel source for this damn R-BOX kernel! How can I get it? Any ideas?

                    Hello,

I think I have the exact same model that you have and also a big problem between my hands!
It's the first time I see a device that looks like mine (I leave here some fotos). I forgot either to back up the original ROM as well as to check the MK808B model that I received and flashed it with the Filness 2.1 ROM. After that, I still wasn't able to have my device working again, I always get a black image on tv with no signal! The device was working just fine before flashing it and I've already tried several ROM (only with one of them I got the 2 penguins and anything else). So, right know my main concern is to get at least the original ROM and make it work again, so I was wondering if someone here is able to help me!!??

Have you tried the ROMs mentioned earlier in this thread?

I road his posts and I actually got the idea that he still was having some problems with the roms that he used, but my English is not the best so... Anyway, I found one solution in another topic, at least for now everything seams to be working just fine with a stock firmware,
I still want to find out if is there any custom ROM working on this model, but for now I'm just relieved to have the device working again!

corechip, you are the ultimate bacon saver! I'm new to the android tv stick world, bought this mk808b, tried it once then tried to flash a modded firmware and it's been a useless brick for 2 weeks since. Thanks so much!
