also other peramiters like cores to online and cores to offline, frequency speed up and down threthold, governor setting like sampling rate (lower used more cpu), etc

sorry for over posting but keep on thinking of things to say and my smart phone hd crashed so I'm using an old palm pre which won't let me edit my posts. Basically it seems like if your cores never go back to higher frequencies or never go back online then its a probably an undervolting issue (to try and fix the heat issue) if they eventually do go back up its a cpu scailing issue which will help with heat but is less drastic because eventually all 4 cores will go back to online then go off once the threthold is met) I imagine this is why many box manfacturers aren't mass producing rk3288 in boxes and taking their time on minix (using s802-h) because manufactures can't properly cool them for the uses (intense hw and sw decoding) while compensating the heat issue.

I've reflashed everything AGAIN lol. Definitely getting much higher temps with Finless than i do with stock. Again, Finless idle temp is 70-80degC stock idle temp is 40-50degC. I can't understand why this is only happening to me and a few other people. Its strange.

The temps are at least 20C cooler than Finless 1.7. With stock my box never goes past 69C but with Finless the temps sit idle at 80C and throttle all the time. With stock temps sit idle at around 40C and never throttle. Finless 1.7 is unusable on my S89 because of this. This is the same behaviour I noticed from Finless 1.6.

BUT, as I wrote only because of the 'highly potent' CPU fix... Without CPU fix I get 40°C - 50°C at idle... with 192MHz (own mod based on Finless CPU fix) everything is fine, but at 1.7 I don't get 1.992GHz (only 1.6GHz) at 'cold state' automatically (I will have a look at it) only if I manually...
Don't ask me, why Bob will not release a 192MHz fix, I ask him and told him the result, but no reaction...

This is both WITH CPU fix. Temps for me seem unstable in Finless 1.7.

OK, I've worked out what was wrong. I was using the CPU fix from the 101k4 ROM. This makes the temps cooler. The CPU fix from the 104k5 ROM has the same temps on Finless and Stock.

Yes of cause it makes it 'cooler' because now you use an older kernel without faking the temp, but maybe it will be hotter at/in reality

FWIW, running Finless 1.7 (no CPU tweaks) I seem to be basically stuck at 75C. It doesn't seem fake to me, it runs noticeably hotter to the touch than it did with Finless 1.6.

I'm a bit nervous about it, since it's going to get a bit hotter still this summer, and I haven't been able to find a spec for max temp of the S802, but I would guess that it's somewhere in the 80s.

While I'm here, what is the best App for examining the behaviour of the cores and temps over time? I'm using "CPU Temperature" from the app store, but I find the CPU Cores + Freq readout confusing, and it doesn't seem to match what I can see in Antutu. Really looking for a good app that will track both in a reliable and accessible way.

stock throttles at 80C and 110C it should shutoff or turn into a Chinese oven

It's not faked, but with some thermal control algorithm..

You can see in 105k4 dtd file:

                            Hi, Omen
                            Thanks for your input

                            Questions: (to omen)
Can this unit ever run 2ghz (long periods) without a coolmod? (In your opinion)
                            If i do a coolmod..
Could/would the unit run at fullspeed?
Or would i need to custom/tweaked kernel for this?

I have seen people doing coolmods.. but the still have hight temps and throttles
Are you shure the temps sensor/software is accured?

Before I completely bricked my unit. I put a new heat sink on the CPU with thermal paste and had a fan running on it and temps were still high and I was getting throttling.

How did you completely brick it? If it's not hardware you should be able to unbrick it.
