Do you have any idea why these boxes would come from the factory with the same MAC address? I have never seen this happen before with all the devices I have purchased.

Yes of cause I have an idea... also MAC is a license
And I know nearly every rk3188 also have the same problem (with the exception they use a USB to Ethernet chip e.g. from ASIXS, but that are not so much boxes, most use the Ethernet at rk3188 with PHY... )

This was a problem on early RK 3188 as well. It was fixed with code to change the MAC randomly after boot.

I bet this may get fixed long term. I tried to see what the tool is changing in the ROM but cannot figure it out yet.

OK , I'm not up to speed with MAC addresses etc. How does this help with apps not "seeing" an Ethernet connection? I've changed the MAC address using Omans tool he posted but the BBC apps still ask for a WiFi connection. Is there something specific that has to be done?

This did not make iplayer work, and it did not make netflix better. Also whatever the BT thing did, that did not fix segmentation fault with sixaxis

Official BBC iPlayer application requires WiFi or mobile data connection. It does not support cable LAN connection!

In order to use LAN connection you may try to install XBMC addon iPlayer:

You may mark this thread as solved, because it's not a problem of Android OS or Tronsmart.

Then why is netflix connection so poor?

                  from the iplayer page:

The BBC iPlayer app uses standard Android app permissions that are defined by the Google Android platform. The permissions the BBC iPlayer Android app asks to use are:
Read phone status and identity – allows us to securely link downloads to your device, so they cannot be copied to another.
Modify or delete the contents of your USB storage – allows the app to save images, metadata and downloads.
Full network access- allows the app to access the internet.

View network connections - Allows the app to access details about network connectivity i.e. whether the device is on Wi-Fi or 3G/4G

So, it is a standard permissions issue on android, any app that makes this check will not work over ethernet.

It will never help at any logical connection (IP, TCP, UDP, HTTP ... are logical), it only help at physical connection e.g. you need a unique physical address at same LAN/WiFi net and e.g. to handle DHCP, because the router use this unique physical address to assign a logical address (the IP at this net)... But will never help at the logical layer...

No, it isn't a 'standard permissions issue on android' ... as you wrote/copy/highlighted, this app ONLY looks at WiFi and 3G/4G and NOT at eth0... I know many app's with this issues...

Ah OK thanks. I though this would solve the problem. There seems to be lot of apps that only work over WiFi, its quite annoying.

I don't know if it has already been posted somewhere but with this app I could get apps requesting wifi to work over ethernet:

                          Hope this helps

YES, let us know, because normaly it is for "usb Ethernet adapter" ...
But if it works like """remapping""" eth0 to wifi (thats the way we need), it will be nice...
