    MINIX NEO X8-H Internet speeds

I have recieved my Minix Neo x8-h.

Although wifi signal is great the wifi speed is dissapointing. Download speed is about half of my other devices. My bandwith with other devices is 15-25 Mbps, minix download speed is 5-11 Mbps. That means it will not stream in HD quality when using my Watson.fi app (streaming and pay tv in Finland). The app will not work with lan cable connected, only works with wifi. Internet speed using lan is not either as good as my other devices.

Other streaming sites also has problems with and often have breaks buffering.

It is really a shame that such good device has such bad wifi.

Let me Let everybody know my findings on the wifi speeds do a speed test with the m1 mouse or any other wifi usb mouses off and you will be suprised i guess the signals might confilict.

Thanks. Will test that later when I get home.

Edit: did not work but updating the software gave huge improvements. I did also move router and Minix closer and changed wifi channel.

I got a fiber optic internet connection with 78mb download and 20mb upload. However due to my shitty router the maximum I could ever get via wifi was 30 or 35mb downlaod (I don't remember exactly).

Right now I made 2 speedtests with the Minix and my Note at 2.5 meters of distance from the router and with direct visibility to the router. When I made the test on the minix I switched off the M1 as soon as I clicked start test.

        Minix X8-H:
        1st test 25.97mb download and 19mb upload
        2nd test 25.92mb downlaod and 19mb uplaod

        Galaxy Note 2:
        1st test 26.36mb download and 19mb upload
        2nd test 29.30 download and 19mb upload.

Considering that the Minix has a huge antena the results should be at least as good as on my Note 2 but for now I won't. However, I wonder how much speed I would get if I had a better router...

Testing goes best using the Ookla speedtest app.

Wifi 2.4Ghz: 14Mbps down / 15Mbps up ( with lots of noise in the air )
Wifi 5Ghz: i dont have that.
Ethernet: 50Mbps down / 60Mbps up ( tested on a 50/50 optical fibre line so probably goes faster )

I'm asking, because I have to wait that my order will arrive at Germany, but if the M1, and I think so, also use a USB-Dongle as receiver like other wireless GM's, than you also have to unplug this USB-Dongle during the test...

True .. a true test must be done with all accesiores enabled, even if they cause packetdrop on the same channel.

Yes, thats the app I used.
In regards to your tests maybe you could mention which results you have with your phone? That way we can compare how powerful is the wifi of x8 compared to other devices

I just switched off the remote (it has a button for that) because one user mentioned that that could decrease the wifi speed. I didn't disconnected the usb dongle.

Yes that maybe a problem, but if so then it is the usb dongle... others use an usb extension cable or hub to place the dongle as far as possible away from the device (antenna) ...

Which ROM are you using please?

On my 1.0 ROM I increased the TCPIP buffers.

                    Bob
"Pzebacz im, bo nie wiedzą, co czynią"
"Прости им, они не ведают, что творят"
"Perdona loro perché non sanno quello che fanno"
"Vergib ihnen, denn sie wissen nicht, was sie tun"
"Vergeef hen want ze weten niet wat ze doen"
"Pardonne-leur car ils ne savent pas ce qu'ils font"
"Perdónalos porque no saben que lo que hacen"
"Oprosti im, jer ne znaju što čine"
"Forgive them as they know not what they do"

In my case I'm using the stock rom that came with the device.

However I don't consider my wifi results really bad but considering that the X7 has a big antenna I guess the results should be the same or slightly better than my Note 2. The fact is that it's just a slightly worst...

                        just tested phone and X8..

Now wifi on 2.4Ghz is on both 20/20Mbps
So the putthrough is the same for pfone and X8 here.

                        Using beta002 rom

These are the speeds that I get:
                          Home Network
                          2.4GHz – 34 Mbps Up/ 36 Mbps Down
                          5GHz – 36 Mbps Up/ 38 Mbps Down

                          Internet (Ookla Speedtest)
5.6 Mbps Up /34 Mbps Down on both bands. These are the exact same numbers that I get when tested from my desktop.

X8-H uses AP6330 that has Broadcom BCM4330. The max rate for this chipset is only 65 Mbps (Long Guard Interval rate). The throughput that I am getting is more than 50% the link rate which I think is great. Yes, it would have been better if a different Wi-Fi chipset (?BCM4334) with link rate of 150 Mbps was used.

Is there a way to make the device think it is using wifi although it is really using ethernet cable. That way wifi only apps that do not work with ethernet cable would work.
