iFive Mini 3GS RileyROM 1.0 KitKat (MTK6592 Octa Core)

After several weeks of trial and error...I'm ready to present my first RileyROM for the iFive Mini 3GS. This ROM is based on official iFive firmware v1.0.9. I realize there is already a v1.1.0, but some people have reported difficulties with it. I will begin testing it soon.

I'm using the most recent version of the SPFlashtool, and it works pretty well.

One known issue with this tablet is that rooted backup apps, like Titanium don't work, because they can't write to either internal or external SD. I'm still searching for a solution to this. I've made the necessary edits to the platform.xml file for permissions...and you can copy files back and forth with a rooted file manager, but these rooted backup apps just won't do a backup. I so far haven't tried a CWM backup/restore yet.

I've flashed this a few times with good results. The flashing process doesn't erase apps or userdata, and results may vary depending on what you might have already installed on your tablet. At one point, I lost the soft buttons on the home screen, and the ability to use the keyboard. All I did was get into stock recovery and reset the device to factory settings. With a clean sleight, things worked much better. As I'm learning these MTK ROM's, I will try to figure out how to get the format/download feature working on the Flash Tool.

In the meantime, though...this tablet runs smoothly with this ROM. I haven't run an Antutu score yet, but it appears that the apps I've tried work pretty well.

Included in the ROM Kit is a First Time User's Guide with detailed instructions on the flashing procedure with screenshots of the SP Flash Tool.

    This ROM is:

    Rooted with SuperSU
    Debloated of all Chinese apps
    Google Play Store fixes added
    Init.d support added
    Busybox commands added
Your choice of stock recovery or CWM Recovery...just select the recovery file in the flash tool before flashing
Autoinstall added for apk files in your external SD "autoinstall" folder (not tested yet)
    Reboot app by Petrus
CWM created with MTK Multi Tool
New boot animation and shut animation
USB drivers included in the ROM kit

Again, just read the First Time User's Guide for instructions.

    Download

    Enjoy!!!!!!!

    Awesome work!

First; I just registered to this forum to thank you Randy for doing this. Keep up the awesome work!

Second: I did the mistake to update my firmware to 1.1.0 and I wonder if there's any way to roll back to 1.0.9 in order to get your ROM in place?

    Best regards

I just installed the 1.0.9 update from stock recovery and was able to flash my ROM with the SP flash tool afterwards.

        It worked, finally!

I reinstalled the 1.0.9 firmware without any difficulties and tried to install your ROM. It took a great while mainly struggling with problems due to the usb-drivers (i think...). I dont really know how I did it but somehow I managed to get windows to detect the 3gs from the off-state and after that the installation went smoothly.

The ROMs seems nice. Fast and smooth. No real increase in the Antuntu-score, around 26000. Dont know how people can get up to 28000?

        Thanks again!

          Hey there,

just pondering trying your ROM and want to ask if the partitions are changed in it, cos the original 2GB app partition in stock ROMis certainly not enough.

          Thanks

Currently, the partitions aren't changed. That's what I'm working on.

I'm still learning the MTK platform, so I'm taking baby steps in development. But my friend and fellow developer 900Supersport has devised a way to make some adjustments in the partitions...I'm just trying to figure it out.

            Stay tuned for an update.

Yes, but I have v1.2, now with many more changes.

I still can't get Titanium to work on mine, though.

v1.2.1 is based on the newer firmware "1.10"

It has the ability to change the size of your user app space partition.

Thanks for confirming. I have downloaded your newer Rom and will flash it directly after unpacking the 3GS in a few weeks titanium backup is not important to me anyway.
