    Stock ROM 0719 Kernel#26 - Elijah - ROM - August Tablets

OK folks. Special thanks to Tuen at VonDroid for providing me with the ROM dump of this new firmware.
Well it's debatable it is new? I will be checking that soon. But for sure we have a different kernel here. Again I will be seeing what I can find that is truely different!

Maybe this ROM fixes the SDcard, etc stuff? Hard to say we just have not had any test time yet.

This ROM is using my ROM flash tool and instructions are in the readme in the download.

So here you go! Let's all test and see whats what! I expect I "may" make a Finless ROM from this if it actually has improvements in it.

    ROM -> Yuandao N101 - Stock ROM 0719 Kernel#26 (163 megs)

    Enjoy all!

    Extra information:

The kernel bundled with this rom seems to be required for the new batch of tablets from atleast elijah! Without this kernel the backlight will not work!

Am testing SD card issue now.

Meneer, so you got your backlight working?

I would like to know if it is just kernel? Or something in boot or system.img?

If it is the kernel you should be able to flash my 1.5a ROM but use the kernel from this ROM. If thats true we know it is kernel.

I have a funny feeling all they might have done is turn the lights off while booting system so people did not notice the bleed with the black background boot logo!!! SNEAKY but if so, that will be something in boot.img or system.img and possibly not the kernel. Can you test these scenarios please.

After I perform/finish SD card test I will test your new #26 kernel with your 'stock 1.5a'

Having just backed up my SDcard I am doing SDcard tests myself. I am using ClockWork to do many backups. The reason is this removes anything in system.img that could cause SDcard issues. Clockwork ONLY uses the the kernel low level file systems. If CW corrupts SDcard then we know it is still a kernel issue.

FYI, you should be able to flash my 1.5a recovery.img and get clockwork. This should not change at all your backlight issues.

Trying to flash 1.5a with new kernel, cant get it to erase first though :P 4th attempt now, waiting atleast 30 seconds before I hit the erase NAND button this time.. only waited 4-10 seconds on earlier attempts.

That did the trick, will be flashing now and report back if the backlight works with new kernel + 1.5a, your boot.img has no kernel so itll be using the kernel.img for sure correct?

Argh, forgot to load new kernel, can I just do kernel only without any erase etc after this completes?

EDIT: Doing a first boot now, all seems normal (using flashlight to check what is on screen) waiting for it to fully boot, then will flash new kernel

EDIT2: Flashing the kernel afterwards turned on the lights

                  Yes 100% correct!

I need to fix the flash tool and why it doesnt count up sometimes. It is a USB data failure that the code is not catching. What I do is close the tool, wait a few seconds, and open the tool again. This usually solves that. But I have had cases where 3 times in a row it wont erase. On my laptop NOT ONCE does it have this problem.
The code is from RockChip but just modified by me to support RK30 instead of RK29. So I missed something somewhere and have not figured it out yet. If I go into my PC bios and turn off USB "High SPeed" then I never get this issue. But who wants slower USB speeds

                  Anyway, cant wait to hear...

So it is in the kernel.... WIERD that recovery has lights with other kernels.

I think they did some trickery here for some reason. I do not think the hardware is really different!

Maybe tuen used the dumps recovery.img? That could have turned on the lights during recovery after install of rom earlier today or..? Could I confirm this by rebooting into YOUR recovery that does not have the kernel?

                      Tested, CWM has lights :P

OK well that is a test to see...

When you flashed my 1.5a ROM and forgot to change the kernel, did you boot to the clockwork menu and have lights?

Nothing had lights without the correct kernel, including CWM, I had to use the flashlight to confirm top option was reboot.

Is it possible to flash 1.5a with the dark kernel, and then also flash the dumps recovery.img and 'reboot to recovery' to see if having only the recovery with built in working lights kernel will make it light up?

Ok flashing 1.5a kernel 485 now but with the dumps recovery.img after installing it should boot into recovery with lights working and then itll use 485 and lights go out again perhaps?

OK thats a confirmation then. This kernel somehow manages the lights differently! I am suprised this kernel works on my tablet! But I still question it's a hardware change. Might be a low level hardware ROM (that you cannot flash) controller change. Maybe they are some how trying to reduce backlight bleed. Possibly a frequence change of the driver or something.

Again I am suprised this kernel works on my tab.

In fact, I have a tiny bit of bleed in the upper right corner of my screen. I can only see it on a black screen in a low light room and it's never really bothered me.
So I am going to now see if I can see some difference in this bleed effect between kernels. Good chance I wont as they clearly made some change that requires your kernel.

However know this....... You will be forever stuck on a different kernel because of this! So if Yuandao makes kernel fixes and we get them, you may not if this Elijah guy is compiling and modding his own?
Who is this guy anyway and how is he able to make new kernels?

Confirmed, by flashing the recovery.img from dump the backlight WORKS but as soon as it boots your rom lights go out again as it then uses 485 kernel, so it looks like this kernel is required for backlight.

Elijah is an aliexpress seller, sells this tablet as OEM, I assume any new kernels we get will be rev2 compatible, unless this is a knockoff made by some other company. And even then, the knockoff company could still bring new kernels.
