N101-II Stock ROM - Official??? Who knows! Not a ROM dump for sure!

    N101-II Stock ROM - Official??? Who knows! Not a ROM dump for sure!

    OK folks... I closed the other thread but here is the deal.
    I got a PM today to download what was told to me as the "shipping" N101-II ROM from Yuandao or it's OEMs.

    Now is this Official? I have NO IDEA... The tracking I did seems to go back to Yuandao. When I flashed this, it has all the SAME bloat apps, etc that other "stock" Yuandao ROMs have! It is not rooted so I know it was not a ROM dump! Again... Is it Official?
    The ONLY time I call something Official is when I get it DIRECT from the manufacturer! So I call this "Official who knows"

    I took it apart and looked at it. I removed kernel.img from boot.img so I could flash it on my -1 model. It for sure is different than Piers ROM dump from his N101-II.

    The build date is:
    rx30_ics_v2.23.00
    rc30sdk-eng 4.0.4 IMM76D eng.jp.20120808.250334 test-keys:

    I cannot test the kernel. -1's will not work with -2 kernels.

    Now when I got it the files names were all in Chinese, etc. So what I have done is cleaned that all up. All I did was rename the rk%$&%$update%%&.img to a English file name. Then I added the batch tool, drivers, etc again all in English. I made this download into a complete kit to download and flash so n00bs do not just get a rk%%$%$update%$%%#.img file!

    I DID NOT TOUCH the update.img from what I got! I only renamed the file name!

    Now this is not one of my ROM kits! It comes with NO instructions! If you DO NOT know how to flash using the RKBatchTool 1.5, then READ the forums here on FreakTab or Vondroid.com for how to do it.


    OK enough said.... Here is the download:

    I have to say... I have been playing with this ROM for an hour now on kernel #338. This is the most responsive ROM I have seen yet! Other ROMs I would see some hangs on GUI response sometimes exiting an APP, or other times... I have YET to see that on this ROM. Very responsive!

    Fixes I have noticed:
    - No more "pop" from the speakers when using the keyboard, screen, etc after a time out or waking from sleep!
    - Again seems more responsive especially after waking from sleep!
    - Wifi connects MUCH faster! I do not know if I need my Slow DHCP patch until I get back to work on Monday.
    - I DO NOT need the power off patch I have made to turn off while charging. It does it now. HOWEVER, if you are charging, it will just reboot on power off. But at least you get the power off dialog now!
    - Unlike the ROm dump from Piers, Battery icon seems to work now!
    - I will just say this also... Battery life seem to be MUCH improved! Seriously! Or the battery stats are lying to me. Only days of testng will tell me.


    But, still some testing to do! I need to make sure other bugs do not exist.

    Bottom line while this maybe a N101-II ROM, the system from it seems to work very well with N101-1 #338 kernel! PLAN on a ROM from me if more testing goes well!

      Bob, this are good news. Although we got in the wrong way with so called brightness fix, seems that now we're heading forward.

      Can this be flashed somehow while keeping the data? Guess I have to extract system.img and flash it with your tool?

          So... maybe I am wrong about battery life!
          Using -2 ROM and -1 kernel. I left it in standby for 12 hours. Battery went to 48%.... thats not too good. This was with kernel 26.

          More testing to do to see why!


          Piers, how is battery life on your -2 with this ROM? Have you tried it yet?

            Does the SD Card still wake the tablet ?

            How easy would it be to flash this on a standard N101 ?

              TomT as you can see I just posted seconds before you did asking. No for this ROM on my -1 with kernel 26, The bettery life in standby is the worst I have seen yet! I am hoping Piers tests this on the actual -2 model and if he sees a difference.

              As for sdcard wake up, I have not seen it do that since kernel 26 on any ROM. I know some are still saying that happens but for me, it is not anymore. BUT I will double check and test again right now for that. When I left it on last night for 12 hours in standby I was not in the room. So let me test again now and see what happens.

                Piers, I noticed the stock Yuandao ROM I got as "ethernet" settings.

                Is there an Ethernet port on this thing?

                    OK I can confirm after sitting in front of the thing for over 20 minutes that it is not waking up in sleep.

                    Now remember this is the stock -2 ROM with kernel #26. It is also not rooted!!!

                    I wonder if rooting this thing will cause the problem. Hmmmmm....

                    Anyway guys, before I make a ROM for this for the -1 models, I need to do more testing.

                    However, do any of you -2 owners want a ROM now?
                    I would really like to hear from -2 owners how this ROM worked for them before I do that though. Piers DUMP might be better than this? So if I make a Finless -2 ROM, it should be from the best of the 2 stock ROMs.

                      If you do it, of course I would appreciate. But I say don't do it, from what you're saying seems that it doesn't solve things.
                      Right now I'm on 26 (from Tuen), but now, as before (with 485) I can't get over 96% when charging.

                      So, i'm trying new stuff: charged to 96%, deleted batterystats.bin (used an app). Next, it have to go to 0% and again a new charge. Hope it goes to 100%. If it goes, next step is too check again battery drain.

                      After an unoptimized firmware, I think a calibration of battery is usually recommended (for best results).

                        Well im stumped. The N101 is simple to get into flashing mode, this N101 II is impossible. I have tried every combination of buttons I can think of. I have followed guides for the N101, N90, N90 II, N70 etc. HOW THE FU*K DOES ONE GET THIS THING INTO FLASH MODE? lol (sorry about the caps).

                        Would love to test the ROM out but can't get Rockchip Batch Tool to show it's connected at all.

                        ps: No, it doesn't have built in ethernet.

                          It's the same CPU and architecture, so it shouldn't be factory dependant. Instead of watching the state in the tool, try in windows devices. If you see something like RK30 (if i remember right) then it's in recovery mode.

                          Another thing: if you have managed to get it rooted, then just install an app which allows rebooting in rcovery. This should do the trick.

                              Piers, it's probably because maybe it is a different device ID in windows so the tool will not see it!

                              I can walk you through how to change the flash tool if this is the case!
