1- As I said & still unanswered the guys at post #4 & #5 early in the thread asked & wondered about this but were not replied to: About the purpose of the switch if it is for power or not + the whole reason for the usb Jack. I didn't expect a relevant reply either. He also asked in #4 about why not a photo of the inside, would be a laugh


2- I can see their point: why keep crying & mentioning tearfully melting plastic more than once & ruining the box with an eye sore usb Jack sticking out when these below, I got two for a dollar last year on ****, work perfectly well as I tested yesterday?




Or simply a male to male USB cable.

And if you use also a rs232 female to connect to UART I don't think that the chip fits...

And if it chip fits, what about the voltage?
(You will only use the voltage if you want to deep-fry your system)

I have no use for usb to serial on a TV box but as OP some might using some peripheral devices with ID_SW on there is no voltage.

Which is why those cables are sold.

Also with the app I linked and that cable (with micro usb adapter) you can check routers etc. with an Android phone or tablet.

#4 and #5 wondered about an under the bonnet photo & OTG vs. Power switch.

Secondly not maybe but definitely: I know a network engineer who uses that pro app and cable with an OTG cable to do basic checks and send basic commands. If a problem getting a handshake or with basic commands he knows there is a problem in that node and gets the laptop out. There are many uses for usb to serial in control systems and robotics too.
