    Why Not Dedicate Box to XBMC Versus Mini PC

    The Minix X8-H is a finished product, not a developer product like the ones that Google give away every year in Google I/O.

    As the device is advertised as a finished product people bought it expecting to be able to perform the advertised tasks without issues. When they receive it and they use it some of them (more than a few) realise that the performance is somehow dissapointing.
    Therefore they complain because they paid for something that doesn't work as expected and advertised.

    It happens every day with any kind of products when the performance doesn't match the expectatives generated by the manufacturer.

    I honestly don't think it's right to blame on users for not helping to fix something that should have been fixed by the manufacturer before they started selling units.

    Why doesn't Minix keep it simple and just make this box dedicated to "XBMC"? Cut out sleepmode, cut out all the menus, cut out all the apps other than XBMC.? Have it boot to XBMC from the start. Seems they are tying to hard to make this device a mini-pc able to do everything.

            plus version 2 firmware ( not beta ) due very soon -- try that if you get the unit back --- full system wipe -- wait 10 to 15 mins and then a factory reset , install latest xbmc if its not in the firmware

              @Batfink32
              Shit happens... but if you resell buggy thinks, than it could happen...

              @ALL
              I understand the frustration... but I think the trouble it isn't only because MINIX, it's also because of amlogic, AND also because of you... You will ask "why me?", but most of us ask again and again "MINIX, how long do we have to wait for the X8? I want it..." (At Germany we say: "Put your fingers also at your own nose")

              BTW: I think the most of you also read the sub-forums for the round ones and also read about all the trouble that exist there and they start at 100K4 and actually at 108K4, and the same story there: nobody of us can wait, every one will be one of the first, that get this NEW toy... and have a look at rk3288, the same story... And of cause the companies what to earn money, so they will be another part of the same problem...

              Last but not least:
              I don't think, if I'm interesting in a fitting firmware and someone say "Hey guys, lets have a look and lets help to fix with NEEDFUL (instead of the useless I often read) information like logs" will blame it on me!

                Haha what reboots?
                /sarcasm
                Yea we wanted a new toy with a brand new SOC. Its definitely not ready for prime time but that's definitely to be expected.. but I have tried my hand at trying to fix (trial and error only, I'm no dev) it and make it usable for me. I just though I should share with other users and maybe, just maybe it will help them out too. Its not something I'm expecting users to have to do. Hell, there might be a totally easier way to fix my issues and I'm just ignorant. I'm not a dev so I try my best at what i know at this point, but I'm learning a lot everyday. It is not MINIX faultl I agree. Anyway..
                I like to help people so I post. I was going to sell it because it would not stay on for more than 20min with new firmware. So I could've put the stock firmware on so it at least ran for next user.. And I wanted that new firmware because it allowed me to see my status bar! :victory: but I've since found a workaround.

                Also thanks to finless Bob and the regulars here with a wealth of knowledge like no spam, etc. These guys make owning the box a lot better because of the continued support

                  What are people doing to these boxes? I had maybe 1 reboot and since installing beta 7 I'm running smooth as silk.

                    All kinds of stuff like installing a couple apps and watching a show or movie. Glad you're running great. The rest of us must be doing something to these boxes. Yeah.

                              I'm starting to wonder if there were bad batches maybe. Like I mentioned I've had one reboot and never freeze and I'm in beta 7 now but was on original firmware maybe 2 weeks.

                              You have people like myself, Bob and a few others that haven't had any issues.

                              I like to think I'm really hard on my box as well.

                                the reboots happened to me only on stock rom+kernel.

                                Finless 1.0 ROM doesn't have this, were you on this ROM when you mean you didn't have this problem ?
