I went ahead and installed beta 8 then I went ahead and didn't install anything but basic apps. after that listened to music, 25min -reboot. Sat awhile, thought I'd do XBMC for a minute, reboot.

Flashed finless1.0 boot IMG On top of beta 8 , gravy.
Cmon m MINIX, I'm rooting for you guys. I know you'll have this fixed in time with stable. You got this devs.!

yeah I've been doing the same things I always do. On the latest beta8, but of course I'm still back on the old kernel. It's the only way I get to play with my device. I use it everyday and don't have any problems when I do it my way. I understand that people think it could be quality control issues but I just don't get the fact that my machine locks up and reboots on any kernel other than the 002/finless1.0.

Oh and BTW, I did get a systemui restart with beta 8. So... I was hoping that would be all I get like you guys, but alas, after a while my system had a soft reboot (went straight to boot animation) so I flashed the same CPU fix I always do and I'm golden again. I just don't know anymore lol.

I had lots of soft boots and system ui crashes,too many to count, on beta008, without your workaround, my device would have already be on a plain back to geekbuying

Most of them were on exiting minix xbmc with the home button, some of them were just from leaving the device idle for a while

OK, so you DID get softboots as well as the systemui FC's with 008 . sorry to hear that, but I had originally thought the softboots were behind you guys. I was kinda sad that only I still had soft boots with 008. Now I know I'm not alone. I still have faith in MINIX.

But with beta 008, my box does run hotter. Before I ran around 55c to 65c while machine was busy. Now doing the same tasks, the box gets as hot as 75c. Everything incl. Xbmc still runs fine, just a bit more lag (due to system throttling down to 1200)

flashing this over finless will most likely wipe all your data and system FYI. you might have good luck with it though so my suggestion would be to backup your apps with titanium backup then go ahead and flash this. too bad that we don't have a way to make an nandroid yet, and I haven't had a chance to test this with TWRP yet. but if you start getting soft reboots, you might have to go back to finless 1.0

But yeah, just read the directions and flash over finless1.0. It does the wiping for you.

I flashed one of the CPU fixes that finless Bob provided in his Finless 1.0 ROM thread.
it contains the kernel based on stock beta 002 ROM.

That, and the earlier kernels seem to be the only kernels that play nicely with my device.

HDMI Spoofing not working?

Can anyone confirm if HDMI output status spoofing works? I tested the showtime app with beta8 and it said does not support devices with hdmi...

I think I have bricked my X8H!!

Although I'm no tech-savvy expert and need complete instructions to follow in order to update the firmware, I do believe that I have bricked my Minix Neo X8H.

I tried your first method and when I got to the last part which was when the box should reboot itself, it just froze on the logo and didn't proceed to load. After 10 mins I decided that the only way forward was to unplug the power cord at the back and try and power it up after 30 secs.

It did load with the new firmware and all was well till it just froze after a few minutes. Again, I had no choice but to unplug the power cord and then power it up again.

I tried this several times with continuous freezing and unplugging of the power cord.

I then decided to try and perform a factory reset to hopefully resolve this problem. Again no luck.

So I then tried using your 3rd method of installing the firmware. Again, the same result.

So I am now stuck with a box that starts well but then freezes after a few minutes of use.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE give me some advice... any light at the end of this tunnel?
