ShaunMT's Modified ROM for Nextbook NX785QC8G (Support Thread)

Ever since I rooted this tablet with this rom and changed partition size, I've been having problems with tablet shutting off for no reason with as high as a 90% charge. Only way it won't shut off is to leave the charger plugged in all the time. Never had this issue before I did this so I doubt it's the stated soldering problem. I think I may need to go back to everything stock. How would I do this?

My son accidentally cracked the screen of his device. Can anyone post the model number of the correct screen so I can research and purchase one. I am sure I can find on youtube but if anyone has an easy access video on how to change screen that would be appreciated also.

Don't know model number of screen,but in just having mine apart yesterday(lol probably could have got it while it was open had I known)there doesn't seem to be anyththing that is real difficult about changing parts on this device,just carefully work your way around the seem wear the black and gray meet on the side popping the tabs loose as you go.from there on the internals most of it looks plug and play.just take your time,should be pretty easy

Those speaker wires are very thin and easy to break. I broke mine and had to solder them back on.

To be honest broke mine to,that's why I gave the heads up.anyways shut off tab last night it was at full charge(took like 5 hours to get there,which is more like it should be)woke up this morning unplugged and turned on,booted first try light was yellow and is operating at full charge.now that confirmed fix on battery issue though taking it back to Walmart(just because its only 8 days out of box and why soldier the wires when I can just get a new one)and now I know how to fix battery issue if happens again.lol!great ROM shaunmt(think I've flashed it like 30 times in the past few days,just trying to figure out battery issue)but everything working great,even storage parameters,login that part helps it run really smooth with quad processor and 4gb of internal storage.one question though maybe I just haven't found it yet but any over clocking options?

I flash shuanmts modified ROM right after getting tablet so when battery issue started happening thought was related.same issue would say was charging light turn yellow get to turn on in recovery but die as soon as unplugged.after reading google articals on tab.found not issue with ROM at all.multiple people having same problem with stock tab. Also.frustrated with issue and well being a fix it or @#$@ it type person I took brand new tablet apart and did some experimenting.in beginning you all read the problem fix quotes.Shaun says for battery problems make sure battery is plugged in completely.well Shaun you were on right track.when I took mine apart battery was plugged in properly,but in watch behavior of battery when charging reminded me of something I see at work all the time(a bad electrical connection).just in the way it would say charging and be charged from zero in 5 minutes then drain in same amount of time.so again took tablet apart unplugged battery and used small screwdriver to slightly bend connector tabs(on female end of connector) upwards to make a better connection.turned tablet on and it powered up no problem on first try.been running tablet for 4 hours now with no issues reboots every time I've tried power of power on unplugged or plugged in running apps or just idling.seems to be working fine.going to keep trying all day to get tab to act up again and will post results tonight or in the morning.seems to be a good tablet just issues in quality control during manufacturing.if anyone else wants to try this let me know what you find.ps almost forgot when opening tablet be careful of speaker wires they are on left side of tablet as screen would face you they are soldered to motherboard and attached to back of tablet.careful not to pull them off.

Start with im new here.hello.got a nextbook8 nx785qc8g for christmas and of course first thing to do is root and remove bloat.i found everything i needed here in your nextbook downloads.root the slim snappy rom and the storage parameters.igot installed and everything is working great.even ablr to instal dsp manager and xplore apk direct to system apks.the only thing i had any trouble withwas getting the storage perametrrs to instal.kept getting error message cant reinstal system then would say no os when tried to reboot.finnally got it in a last ditch effort.reflashed the twrp version of rom then started from scratch with stock recovery,stock recovery version of rom instal twrp and when it gave me message again picked both system zip and parrition zip and swiped to instal both.finally went through and rebooted fine.storage modified and all opperating properly.this tablet is so much nicer now.and its really fast.lthanks again for all the hard work.ill bewatching for updates.

Thanks for all the help. Now that everything runs fine I am assuming I can clear all downloaded items off the microSD correct?

You can.

Also, in the future should I remove each file after installing. Ie install TWRP - remove, install ROM - remove, finally install partition - remove. Follow this by factory reset and then power on.

The only part that really needs to be removed is the update.img version of the ROM, because the ROM looks for this file on boot and prompts to either install or remove it.

I am guessing where I went wrong is leaving each file on there.

Possibly... it's also possible that patch install didn't complete properly and may have left some temporary files.

Thank you so much for the assistance. I got it working but I wanted to better understand why. I let the tablet run over night plugged in (locked up with the nextbook opening) to no avail. I decided this morning with my limited knowledge that maybe a file on the microSD card was causing the boot loop so I removed and restarted.

Guess what started working. Obviously my assumption is that there was a file on the micro SD causing the loop. I turned tablet off and rebooted this time with the microSD back in and it worked. I was able to set everything up with only one thing that confused me

Firmware Updating - A update package file is found :'/mnt/external_sdupdate.img' Would you like to install the package?

I hit cancel on this and everything works fine.

At this point can I clear the whole microSD card including the .img which then should fix everything.

I assume all the needed changes have been made internally on the tablet so now the microSD is truly just storage.

I think the problem was twofold... I belive you left an update.img file on your external SD card that should have been deleted when you were through with it, because Android will try to install it everytime it reboots.

I also think you had some recovery scripts that failed to get deleted from your cache.

So having 2 children this tablet is their gift for Christmas. As stated I was having the problem of the tablet loading and going through freaktab opening followed by the nextbook opening. The 1st tablet somehow resolved and now boots up. Feeling confident I whent through working on the second one<br />

Try installing twrp, then fladh parameters, then install the rom. Reboot into system everytime prior to going to the next step. Wish i could do it for ya. I feel your pain. 😵

I have tried everything to no avail. Following another attempt to reinstall the partition I did a factory restore and the picture shows some errors that not sure if contributing to the problem.

I am not sure why, but I think it was just the double reboot that solved the issue... maybe because the of the parameter size change...

Im guesing it asked you to delete an update.img file from your external sd so it wouldnt prompt to reinstall every reboot...

Check your internal sdcard to verify it mounted, if not, it will need to be wiped or reformatted in twrp for the new size.
