If TWRP is required to install the ROM, should it also be included the ROM and reflashed?
Should I provide a standalone update.zip to reflash TWRP from TWRP?
Note: I cannot make an update.zip for stock recovery because I don't have Nextbook's private signature keys... the rkimage install from stock recovery works because the rkimage install doesn't look for signature keys...

I'm trying to remember which parts were required to make a working rkimage... the recovery partition and possibly the stock parameters and /or my modified boot image.
I was planning to start by offering parameter patches for stock (1 GB), 2GB, and 4GB /data partition sizes. The /sdcard partitions gets whatever is left over and everything else (system, cache, misc, metadata, kpanic, boot... stay the same).

I don't plan to release a version flashable via PC flash tools... If I release it, I'll be expected to support it, and I really don't want to... I figure anyone who knows how to take apart an rkimage or dump a partition won't need any help...

Lots of progress recently!
I have, what I believe to be a fully working version of TWRP recovery, which has been in private beta testing for a week now... I believe it will be ready for a public release after another build and round of beta testing...
I've also figured out how to make the parameter patches to modify the /data and /sdcard sizes work... I'm currently trying to get these packaged up and sent out to my beta testers. They will probably be released publicly at the same time as TWRP recovery, along with a new customized version of the stock ROM that is flashable in TWRP.
When everything is done the process will look like this:
1. Start with a stock ROM, or my current customized ROM. (I can't currently help people revert from OMA's ROM, as I haven't used OMA's ROM and don't know what changes he made. I've heard it may be necessary to use one of the PC flashing tools to wipe or reflash the stock ROM paramters and partitions individually.)
2. Use stock recovery rkimage install to flash my TWRP recovery.
3. Optionally, Use my TWRP recovery to flash a parameter patch for your desired /data size. (/sdcard gets whatever space is left over. There will be a couple of options available. You can flash a new paramter patch anytime, but it requires reformatting both /data and /sdcard for the new sizes each time. Just choose a size and flash... the rest of the process is entirely automated.)
4. Optionally, install my pre-rooted, modified version of the stock ROM. (if not already using it)
FYI,
After this stuff gets released, I intend to spend some time supporting older devices before I proceed with building new ROMs for the NX785QC8G, but eventually I hope to have working versions of OmniRom, Cyanogenmod, and possibly more.

Hmm that's a serious problem. Now even when its done what do you want us to test to make sure things run like what you expect on it to runrun

Well, I've made a little progress this weekend, but still trying to track down and fix this bug...
Everything works but installing files... TWRP reports that the update script was processed successfully, but the log indicates that every step failed...
Still trying to figure out why...
