Do you have a Google voice account? If so, using it as a phone would be easy. You need an app called Groove IP. Its on the play store, there is a lite version available for free. Use that, you've got free phone calls on wifi.

Try Talkatone through your Google Voice account! It allows incoming and outgoing! 100% FREE phone calls in the US! It's so reliable I am using it most the time now instead of my cell account!

Just tried out talkatone. I honestly kinda thought you were advertising for them at first. Sounded a little bit too enthusiastic about it. The app works a lot the same as groove IP. I can verify that tapatalk does allow incoming and outgoing calls using your google voice number. So this does mean free calls over wifi until google decides to end the free calling thing. They can't keep it going forever. Talkatone can also do texts thru your google voice number, but I like the interface of the google voice app itself better for texting.

Impulse Buy!

I had recently bought in Big Lots some teal colored yarn to knit a shawl with. Yesterday I decided to go back there to see if they had more to make sure I have enough for the shawl. They had 2 more skeins of it so I bought them. I went and looked at the tablets. Most of them were $99 or $119 and up. I saw the Polaroid PMID 4311 for $65 in there. At first I thought well it looks so small and the screens probably too small but then it hit me. It looked like it was small enough to fit in a purse. Which would be great for those times that I'd want a tablet but not want to lug my bigger PMID 701i. I asked to look at it and it looked like it would fit in a purse as long as I used a regular size one and not a real small one. So I ended up making an impulse splurge on the PMID 4311. I couldn't help it. So far it's working okay. I get the impression that the white ones don't work as well as the black ones so I'm glad I got a black one. Accuweather works with it. Hadn't yet tried websites with it but we will see. So far all my apps I use on my 701i are working on it.

I noticed it has a few things the PMID 701i doesn't like volume buttons on the device and not just the screen, a regular camera and video camera. I suspect the cameras won't be the greatest and not replace a regular digital one since there is no flash on them. As esp since the camera is a front one. Since my dear hubby passed in March 2009, I moved in with my folks so I could rent my home to get some income and not be alone. When my mom finds out I have bought this she will say I didn't need it cuz I already have a tablet. But I could not resist the portability. If the internet works okay on it and the battery life is okay, then it's a keeper. I couldn't find in BL a case the right size for it so I'll have to crochet or knit me one. I'm just like one of my late uncles who was a gadget person. If only he had lived to see the internet or tablets or cellphones. Will have to let folks know on here if this thing works well.

i bought a polroid pmid4311 4.3" tablet over the weekend at big lots for $65. it has a 1ghz processor. 512 mb ram. 4gb internal sd. 32gb compatable external sd. android 4.0.4 rooted out of the box. i installed supersu and busybox latest. it is black with only 4 buttons (back, vol.up, vol.dwn, and pwr). it also has a front camera ( no rear) and no bluetooth. lol. i also got market installed and working using a method i found elsewhere. is anyone willing to develop for this tablet? hopefully CWM,ROMS,ETC. if so i can upload any files needed via dropbox. im a semi noobie. i have a samsung transform ultra phone for boost rooted with cwm and custom rom. also acer a500 tablet rooted with cwm, custom rom, and upgraded custom bootloader v8. just a little info about myself for your knowledge. i also follow instructions really well.
there will be others purchasing this tablet soon i imagine. or maybe i will be the only one. hope not though i would like to see what developers can do with this thing.

Sorry Hamloaf, no HDMI output. USB host works great (mine is Windows 7 OS). I put everything in the new 16GB micro chip now. Google Play works perfect even when ordering from the PC. I find the apps loading the next time I turn the PMID 4311 on.

Photos and mp4s are really good in my opinion. Works better than my tablet with 2.2 Android.

Netflix immediately crashes.

I have tried installing every version of Netflix from 1.2 to the current version on Google Play. When the icon is clicked on, the tablet goes to a black screen then back to whatever screen you were on when you clicked the icon. Anybody know of a fix? Thanks. Chuck

Any news on a.o.s.p or cm10 for this great little tablet,i just purchased this yesterday on an impulse buy,i wanted the black one but had to settle for white one because they were sold out of black,so now in my collection of phones and tablets i have a mytouch 4g running sense 4.0 full ver,an hp touchpad running cm9,a polaroid 701c running a.o.s.p and now my new edition my polaroid pmid4311 running stock,hopefully running cm10 when ever william klein works his majic,keep us in the loop will when you get your cm10 or a.o.s.p compiled and great work on your builds that you have provided for this community
