Pipo T9 RileyROM 1.2 [KitKat]

I don't have a T9, P4 or a Cube Talk 9x...so I can't tell you which is best among the three.

From a developer standpoint, I'm much more comfortable working with the Rockchip ROMs. The Pipo P1 and P9 tablets I have are by far the best performers I've seen.

As you can read in this thread...the T9 has it's good points. Pipo does need to polish their KitKat firmware some more.

The P4 is the only tablet I've seen with an Android 4.4.4 firmware...and it, too has some needed adjustments.

The M7 Pro went through the same cycle of firmware adjustments...and in the end turned out to be a very stable tablet.

Be patient, and we shall see how the next round of firmware updates turns out.

I haven't been following the Cube threads much, so I don't know whether they share the same little problems.

Pipo T9 screen rotation

Hi Guys

I just purchased a T9 and main screen menus will not rotate, in which they stay in landscape( I have enabled it in the drop down menu). The tilt function works in games. By installing the custom rom would this fix it?

A better launcher is the answer. The stock 4.2.x launcher is functional but very basic.
I use Next 3D launcher, but there's a good variety and many of them are free.

or google 'android launcher', or look in the playstore under 'launcher', and pick one that floats your boat. You can always change it back as long as you don't uninstall the stock launcher.

Camera out of focus

Hi guys,

I contacted Anna from Pipo via email as I planned to use my T9 with Kitkat (rooted stock) as a backup camery during my upcoming holiday. I asked if there will be a fix for the out of focus problem and got a kind of disturbing answer:

"I asked our technicians about this, they said the 4.4 firmware we had can't be compatible with some oder camera. There are two ways to solve this: keep the 4.2 firmware or change to another new camera"

Am I wrong that the T9 is one of the recent models? why shouldn't the 4.4 be compatibel with that recent tablet...and with an update they actually made for that tablet?

i'm a little bit frustrated right now...

There is a third solution, though it is not presently available to us, because while Pipo seem happy to profit from Open Source software, they have not complied with the terms of its license (so far as I am aware). If they did meet their obligations to release source code immediately, it would allow community-minded programmers to fix the camera problem and make other useful changes. This is what an Open Source release is for. Clearly it is not impossible for the camera focus problem to be solved somehow, since it does not occur in 4.2.2.

What happens is that Google releases the 4.4.x kernel source code under an Open Source license, then companies like MTK produce a version that is designed to work with their processor and release it (sometimes exclusively to OEMs, against the terms of the license) to OEMs like Pipo, who can then adapt it for the hardware on specific tablets like the T9. But Pipo did not release it, probably because it would take someone a few days to set up, or because MTK might not have given explicit permission for release, and it would also cost a few person-days a year to keep a code repository up to date. Meanwhile nobody enforces the license conditions specified by the original coders, Google. Companies like MTK and Pipo just exploit this, and their business depends on it almost completely, but it would incur costs to comply so they don't bother unless severe pressure is applied.

Pipo could correct this camera problem either by assigning a skilled programmer to fix up the kernel, or by releasing the source code, as they are required to do under the license, so that someone else could fix it without rewriting the entire kernel. I guess we are being told that they will do neither of these things.

This did not fix mine, it made it better... but long distance it is still out of focus.

I see Pipo have reposted the old 4.2.2, so they must be getting a lot of complaints.

"Download Only" OR "Format All - Download" mode ??

Hi all,

Already done every prerequisite steps like this:
-rooted my T9
-install all 'good' drivers
-take FULL backup with Titanum/MTKDroidTools/CWM
-write down my IMEI
-install CWM (clockworkmod recovery) In MTK Droidtools
-etc...

I read all this thread, but it's still unclear to me which option i need to choose in SP Tool
"Download Only" OR "Format All - Download" mode ???

Coz the PDF file which was in the "RileyROM 1.2" ZIP file i read this
"Again, this may not be necessary…if you select Download Only from the flash tool (see below)"

BUT beginning of this thread, i read this:
""6. Change the Download Only mode to "Format All - Download" mode. This is important because you are changing from Jellybean to KitKat.""

Now i'm getting confused a little bit...

If i don't wanna change the size of the User App Space then is still necessary to "Format All" ??

I really don't want to format the internal SD card either....

Since you are going from a Jellybean ROM to a KitKat ROM, I recommend using Format All Download.

Then, boot to recovery by holding volume+ and press power. Do a wipe and factory reset to format the partitions. Then boot to system.

This will erase everything, so you will loose all data...including your IMEI number. So be sure to make backups.

Thx Riley, i already made backup with Titanum/MTKDroidTools/CWM also write down my IMEI !

i just worries about my personal data/downloads on Internal SD Card, but also made file-system level backup via Windows so hopefully i can restore it...

I think, it will not format External SD, only the Internal one...

If choose "Format all" then i need to select PRELOADER also in SP Flash Tool or not ?

If unclick anything then it changed to "Download Only" automatically
