Can the recovery that came with the device do a full nandroid backup or is another cwm based recovery required. Thanks in advance for your replies
Just got the tablet.. Any ideas on rooting it??

      Rooting the U55GT-C8

I recieved my machine just this week. It performs and looks awesome, but I had a hell of a time rooting it. I couldn't even attempt to use any update.zip methods, as my unit only has 'wireless update' available from the system menu, no option to install from SD.

Framaroot failed, RootGenius failed, MTKdroidtools failed (although my PC sees the machine fine, as 'MID', reprting the correct specs and chipset). Then I tried Kingo Root, and it worked first go! I recommend this to anyone having problems getting root.

Now, I just have to wait for a compatible CWM or similar to show up for it, so I can make a reliable system backup and experiment with Gravitybox...

See my last post. Kingo Root did the trick for me. If I try to load recovery, all my machine gives me is a pure white screen and I have to reboot. I hope a dev somewhere comes up with a CWM recovery for it soon!

I already had 'All MTK USB driver 0.8.2' installed, from a previous phone I had. It contains ADB and recognized my U55GT-C8 fine.

But, Kingo Root downloaded and installed a different driver set to do its job during installation. It worked, but seems to have disabled the original MTK ones in the process.

If for some reason I need to use MTK tools again, I guess I'll have to reinstall those drivers.

I haven't even tried to get a new recovery on this machine.

It's very smooth, stable, and performs excellently, but there is next to zero support or development for it! I had enough trouble just getting it rooted, so if you or anyone else gets a CWM or an other working recovery on it, I'd love to know!
