Yeah you're right. I really should try. I will email them first thing in the morning and I will direct them to this thread for more details.

I think it has to do with a different potential between the Box and the Laptop.
If this happens you can get a different Voltage between this two. This means when you connect the Box to Laptop you get a Short on this different Voltage.
This will be a reason for this big Spark you see.
This will also Damage your Laptop.

Thanks for your expertise too Ray. I guess that's the most likely scenario since it did kill my laptop along with it.

Strange thing. I can hear the fan actually turn on now on the laptop. Its very faint and slows to a stop within 5 seconds of powering it on and then the light just goes out and nothing until I press power button again. So its getting some power. Nothing on the screen tho. Not even a bios splash. Just seems like its not enough juice to keep it running for more than a few seconds. I have no idea whats going on there either. Sigh.

Try the following to get Rescue you Laptop maybe.
Try to find the Bios Battery in it. Remove it also remove the Battery and the Power Line.
Then let it for about 20 Minutes. After this Press more then one Time the Power Buttom on your Device.
Now replace all Batterys and see if it come up.
For me the Supplier must Help you also with this. Or you have an Insurance.

Cool. I will give this a shot. I was gonna go to bed but i won't be able to sleep now if there is a chance my PC will again work! So I'm up now.

You freaktab guys are just the best.

Honestly I thought I could possibly get a couple users maybe ridiculing me and blaming me like I did this to myself, or it was just user error or something I did. when in all honesty I did nothing wrong I'm sure of it. I only wanted to try the new firmware.

You're the best freaktab. And you're a very good person neomode. I know you guys don't have to believe me but I appreciate that you do. I'm an extremely truthful person in life always. I find that's how good things come back full circle. And I believe in karma. Thank you Ray.

The MINIX box looks completely totalled - I would also send the otg cable back if you are returning the unit - definitely looks like there has been a short to the earth connection - think I'll stick with SD firmware updates until we know what caused your problem . any pics of the otg cable or does that look OK .

I'll check out the cable in the morning since I'm up in bed now. Then I'll post my findings
but I have used the correct rom flash tool to do the update process with the otg before and never had an issue flashing

If indeed the laptop is damaged, then it had to be the laptop that sent the wrong voltage to your android box. I would also contact the manufacturer of your laptop. Since I would assume that the laptop manufacturer is a much larger company, they would be the one that would be most interested in this problem. I would really like to know what caused this, I just don't understand it.

                      Minix Power Supply Suspect

How about the possibility that the X8 power adapter was at fault. If the transformer coils shorted you may have had a direct AC wall voltage applied to the entire board thus the sparks and meltdown. Have you checked output of both power supplies with a volt meter?

Whoa, so it is possible the laptop pushed some juice to that cable and box huh.. That is so over my head but I'm trying to read up on some stuff on google I've recently searched, but I just can't find the right search query to get me the knowledge I need in this situation.
Looks like nobody has ever had this exact thing happen, or I just can't find it. My brain hurts jk

And seeing how its even puzzled you guys really has me curious as to what really happened and the culprit. This could have burned my house down or possibly hurt me or the fams. Not good.

Laptop is a dell inspiron 1545 so its pretty old and lame. It was my last backup left in the house. My main laptop that died on me a month ago was an older hp with 64bit and 8gb ram, but with an impressive Radeon chip in it. It has gotten so old that for some reason the fan doesn't cool it enough anymore and the battery doesn't hold a charge. It runs for about 20min and then blue screens or just shuts off completely. I've formatted and still same outcome. Probably dust and grime within the board and chip, idk, wish I was as smart as you guys.

Ugh, back on topic..I still have to contact GeekBuying and explain my situation but I really don't expect them to do anything, but hey, you never know, they could end up being as cool as the Freaktab freaks.

If only we knew what caused it, then I'd know where I stand. I hope my post sounds right and I don't sound like I think they owe me. I'm kind of confused as to what to do so after dinner I'm gonna write an email to Eric and company and see where I stand.

Sorry for the novel I just wrote. Thanks for listening

That could be a possibility too? Wow. I haven't tested. That's something I've never had to do so I don't know how but it can't be harder than taking the temp of em right. Sorry for the ignorance. Ive pretty much always been a bit afraid of electricity. I'm always getting shocked and shocking people. And I hay lightning. Maybe its me with the short. Harr harrr. Seriously tho I'm gonna go to my dad's and see if he owns a volt meter

Thanks for the help. Were pretty confused as to what's going on here..

I don't think so because there exists a very sensitive fuse (super-fast) at the minix pcb direct at the power plug...

But you are right, I also didn't heard something like this before...

Yes there is a Fuse but only for one Pole not for Both.
Tho it is possible to me.
