4K UHD Resolution Zero Devices Z5C

Hi, I know this device has not be launched yet but I have read the Z5C is going to support the 4K resolution 60fps.

Any idea about this? I would like to get 60fps because I hope my next TV will support the HDMI 2.0 so the stick will be ready for the near future.

Are you sure it's a 4K output and not upscaled? The rikomagic Rk3288 devices were proven to be 1080p upscaled using a 4K TV and test patterns.

How do you determine with a test pattern if it is an upscale or not? Because of the output quality? I think it could also happen at bad 4K output of the box or bad processing at the TV...

If it's the tv, you would see the issues consistently across more than one device. And from what I've read about the RKM devices, the difference is very obvious.

Here's a link with a couple test patterns posted on this forum:

For more info about the devices that failed the test, check out the Rikomagic subforum.

There's apparently also an app that reports the true resolution. I had to hunt down the thread since the forum was reorganized:

This is interesting, maybe RK3288 are like RK3188 and RK3066 (720p upscaled to 1080p, and now 1080p to 4K).
I really can't wait to have one of these on my hands.

Ok, I tested the pattern video from CNX-Soft

                  Hardware:

                  - ZERO Devices Z5C Thinko
                  - TV SAMSUNG UHD (up to 30fps)

                  1. Download video from laptop to a TF card (inside of an USB adaptor)
                  2. Connect the card (inside the USB adaptor) to the ZERO Devices Z5C
                  3. Open MX Player and set S/W
                  4. Play the video file
                  5. Adjust MX Player's scale to 100%

This is the result when I choose 4K - 30 (maximun of this TV)

                  Zoom:

It is not perfect, but I can see clear those white and black dots.

When I choose 1080p this is the image:

                  Zoom:

So it looks like this is a true 4K device

Awsome! Thanks for doing that. It does look like true HD output. Maybe you can contact the guy on the last thread (Darkcyrix) for the app that checks the prebuffer resolution automatically.

Ok, to be more exact. I did all again, this time WITHOUT MOVE THE CAMERA, in a tripod (if you put attention you will find the text is not in same place on both pics, it was displayed in those positions by the TV).

I wonder what those balls are that show up in the gray, or black and white area are. Are they visible with naked eye or is that some kind of picture artifact?

Do not worry, discussion continues "behind the scenes". And will continue here later after Z5C is launched (well and same for others RK3288 boxes).
