UG802 WiFi MOD - Instructional Video!

OK folks. Doing some testing myself on the WiFi signal problem. I truely believe no ROM can fix this. Sure a ROM can lie to you and adjust the signal meter but are you really getting a better signal? I do not beleive the hardware can be adjusted by software to improve signal strength otherwise it would have been tuned already.

I think the problem is the patch antenna is inside the unit up agains the board. Then compound that with it being next to your TV, possibly signal is going through many walls, your TV itself, etc. Then all the EME coming from your TV and other devices.... well Again this is my thoughts.

What I did was remove the patch antenna from the unit. It has a pretty long wire on it so it will allow you to get it a little farther from devices and orient the antenna for the best signal possible. For me it for sure improved my Wifi performance. Not just the signal meter but actual streaming performance.

A good way to see this is netflix. The lower the signal the lower the transmittion bandwidth. When the bandwidth gets low, the more blocky the netflix video looks. If the signal is too low, netflix can even start to get out of sync, skip audio, and drop frames. When I moved the antenna outside the unit, this got much better for me.

Your mileage may vary though. But this MOD is so easy to do if it does not work, you can put the antenna back.

Warning! this mod will void warrenty!

So here is a video I did showing you how to make this simple MOD.

    Enjoy,

Finless this worked great! I was getting less than 1 MBit using the SpeedTest.net android app and after the mod I am now getting 5 to 6 Mbits and it is now the same as my Samsung Galaxy S3.

I had wifi issues but my solution was installing finless 1.4 custom rom, I then plugged it in to the apple ipad 10w usb charger and now my wifi works most of the time. I also have a logitech powered usb hub for my mouse and keyboard so it doesnt strain internal usb. Not sure if this will work for all but worth a shot. I think the supplied usb power adaptor is not giving the right amount of power causing the unit to do random errors especially with wifi.

Hy from Italy and thanks to Finless for the video.
I have one question, if I replace the UG802 antenna with a laptop wifi antenna the wireless signal can improve?
                  Sorry for my poor english...

If your soldering skills are good then I think yes to this question. The wire coming from the board is shielded so you should unsolder the patch antenna and solder on a PC "probe" style antenna to the wire. Now if you get better wifi? I do not know but I am thinking you will.

Paz, your English is fine my friend! No worries

OK I will test this solution in the week end and if works better the second steps is solder an rp-sma adapter and put a mini panel antenna.

                        Dit is work?

The MK808 has two internal antennas, is it possible to mod the UG802 with two (internal) antannas?

                          Dear Finless,

                          THANKYOU, THANKYOU, THANKYOU, THANKYOU!

My TV is approximently 25' clear view to the wifi router, however I could only get a very weak signal. Could not load a youtube clip, it would load a little, pause a long time, and try again.

Just did your mod, and while the strength is only listed as "good" at least it is useable.

                          thanks!

                            Your welcome!

Also know this fact. The latest versions of the youtube app for sure have some issues with buffering!
You should try an old version I always tell people with buffering problem to try.
