I think the problem is the patch antenna is inside the unit up agains the board. Then compound that with it being next to your TV, possibly signal is going through many walls, your TV itself, etc. Then all the EME coming from your TV and other devices.... well Again this is my thoughts.
What I did was remove the patch antenna from the unit. It has a pretty long wire on it so it will allow you to get it a little farther from devices and orient the antenna for the best signal possible. For me it for sure improved my Wifi performance. Not just the signal meter but actual streaming performance.
A good way to see this is netflix. The lower the signal the lower the transmittion bandwidth. When the bandwidth gets low, the more blocky the netflix video looks. If the signal is too low, netflix can even start to get out of sync, skip audio, and drop frames. When I moved the antenna outside the unit, this got much better for me.
Your mileage may vary though. But this MOD is so easy to do if it does not work, you can put the antenna back.
Warning! this mod will void warrenty!
So here is a video I did showing you how to make this simple MOD.
