    That's what I was afraid of ...

I own a Pipo U6 tablet, and it too, hangs and is very laggy.
I was hoping that it was only a problem with this model, but apparently, Pipo have FW problems in most of their tablets.
Have you tried flashing Riley's ROM?
Why did you choose the mini 3GS and not the 4?

I went with 3GS cause I use the 3G data quite often on the go . And 4 didnt have the capability. That's why I chose Pipo P8 and truly disappointed and emailed them to get my money back.
I haven't tried RileyRom on Pipo yet. But his ROM on 3GS works perfectly! So I might try it if I dont end up getting rid of P8.

Where did you get this official Pipo P8 rom ?
I've installed your latest 1.5 and it works great but i'm missing an "official" rom except the backup i did with android tool following your documentation.

          Hi NSPP

Are you also having problems with the P8 like benzz is describing?

@benzz and Dave-s - I've seen similar problems regarding quality. With custom ROMs like the RILEYROM, the functionality, stability and performance will be on the expected level. As I've had a mini3 and a mini3 GS in comparison with the Pipo P8 , I can tell, that smoothness and performance of the P8 are on a higher level. My preference for daily use is definitely the P8. The light leak can be adjusted with tweaking the tablet slightly and carefully. With the Pipo case it looks OK for me. Regarding the ROM, you'll find the original one here: http://www.pipo.cn/En/index.php?m=Pr...&type=2&id=349

              Light leak

              Hi Avant,
What kind of tweak are you talking about? Do you mean that you need to open the tablet?

Can you upload a photo of the screen that shows the leak?

              Thanks.

                Hello.

v1.5 was the first I installed on my P8. Quite a few issues:

Everything seemed fine for a while but after shutting down and restarting I noticed that some core apps where missing (Play Store and Reboot app from what I remember).

Also, some apps I installed where missing (their icon was there though).

If I try to go to backup & reset Settings will crash and close.

Lastly, as kiko95 reported WiFi will not turn back on.

Happy to help out with any further comments or to answer any questions concerning this.

                Thanks,
                P.

PS Btw (irrelevant), anyone knows where I can get a decent case for this tablet?

I just double checked...everything seems to be there...as in the other ROM's.

Has anyone flashed this ROM and had everything working correctly?

@rrileypm - I have flashed the ROM, but I've had issues with the internal and external SD card as I was not able to write on either one (I've lower formatted with AndroidTool). I tried different paramter files, but same issue with each attempt.@Dave-s I was twisting the tablet a little, so the tension had been elimiated on one corner. This helped to elimiate the light leak or brigher part at one corner of the display.Jo

One way to fix the light leakage is to place the tablet face down on a cloth on a firm table.

Apply pressure to the back cover, especially in areas where you feel something touching the back cover...like chips with heat sync tape. Make sure the back cover is secured as it is supposed to be.

I've had this happen to me after I've removed the cover and replaced it...only to boot to a nasty display.

That procedure seems to fix it for me.

Let me dig a little deeper on this ROM and I'll see what might be causing problems.

                        Nope..

I first made a backup to external sd card with titanium backup [ apps, user data, system data ].

I flashed using standard parameter6.txt file...

After first reboot I restored all my system parameters and apps using titanium backup from an external sd card and rebooted after all went fine. // 64Go SD card are detected OK when formatted in FAT32

The WiFi works correctly on 2.4GHz (i do not see where to select 5GHz), gps needed long time (30minutes outside ) for first fix but started correctly.
Standby battery drain is OK (but i disconnect wifi/bluethooth/3G when i do not need it)

Bluetooth connect correctly to my headset and to my HP keyboard..

so for now all is good...
(and i do not find the build quality so bad for the price...)

flashed to riley 1.5 and things seems to be fine 70% of the time.
Does pipo p8 show 3G when connected to mobile network? mine only shows the antenna but no 3G or HSPA.

Another thing I noticed is I cant drag the brightness to the max level , in the manual mode when i drag it to the max it will automatically reduce to 3/4 , the automatic mode work as it should but why can't i increase the brightness manually to the max?? This seems to be happening when the battery is under 20% is there a way to disable this "feature"?

I experienced couple of crashes, slow performance and resets while browsing, downloading apps, watching videos and playing games.

Definitely the base ROM from Pipo lack major fine tuning, or the quality of the device and performance is low.

you can bend the device so easily and can see-feel the case moving around and the light leak intensifies or at parts reduces, Also two spots on the screen which seems like a pressure from parts on the screen are causing them.such a crap quality of build in my opinion.
Does any one know any better 7.9 3/4G tablet which has much better quality at similar price?

Today the internal sdcard seems to not be mounted anymore...

OK, I've reinstalled v1.5 and have had it running for 2-3 days without any problems.

                              Here's 3 things I DIDN'T do this time:

                              1. Disable hdmi
                              2. Disable the standard email app
                              3. Insert my SD card - somehow I feel that this is the culprit for all problems.

                              Hope the above helps somehow.

Oh, one more issue I'm facing is when setting the brightness to auto and powering off, when I turn the tablet back on again the auto setting is gone.

                              Cheers!
                              P.

I'm not sure this tablet actually has a light sensor. That's likely why that happens.

                                Good luck with your testing
